Poll question: Have you ever lived on Main Street?

This poll comes from my last one about all the streets you've ever lived on. Seems a lot have lived on a "Main Street."

LaGrande, Oregon.

But in that town the "main" street is Adams Avenue.
LaGrande's Main Street is a 2 block long quiet neighborhood street that dosnt go through to anywhere.

3. No, but I work on Main Street

4. 1985-88, small town in Pennsylvania called "New Hope"

Had a lovely little 1-br apartment right next to the Delaware river.

Town was so small the only businesses left were a cafe open 4 days a week, and elevator, the post office and two bars.

for thinking it's crzy that I only lived on one street my whole life. We'll technically two, I owe a condo but split my time between there and my folks home, which is the only house I ever lived in.

I don't think it's crazy - I envy you. I've lived in at least 30 places in my life. I so envy people who can go back to, or who live in, the place they grew up. That's neat.

I admire people who get to live (whether by choice or job/financially related) all over the place. Those people get to see more of the world and experience what other communities have to offer.

My folks sold our house to move out of state and I had to begin my nomadic ways.

I can never go home, because there isn't one...

17. Not only did they sell the house

but the people who bought it knocked a wall down between the livingroom and my bedroom to expand the livingroom,and now my room is gone also.

and the 10 black walnuts and maples that we planted as kids, they chainsawed down the week they moved in.

But hey, that was 25 years ago, I'm over it...

19. My grandparents did that to my uncle

My dad's youngest brother is 21 years younger than my dad.
So after my uncle graduated from H.S. my grandparents sold the house and moved to Florida. My uncle went to Yale but on breaks and the summer, he had no where to go up in CT. He ended up staying at his now wife's parents house.

the people who bought our house immediately enlarged the kitchen, which was plenty huge. that house needed no more living space, if you asked me. i have not been back there since (30 years now....), but my brother said it looks very different than when we were kids. i think he even said something about some trees being gone, now that i think about it....

it's hard to see that kind of change.

my parents sold the house i grew up in when i was 21. they moved from ct to nc, and that place has never been home to me. now my dad is gone and my mom is in a retirement complex. there is no home at all! well, except mine....... but you know what i mean!

has sometime or another lived on Main St. I did for 10yrs.
Its a humbling experience but makes you really appreciate life

20. Yes - Main Street, Wharton, NJ

A few blocks from where Cyndi Lauper filmed part of her "Time After Time" video. I took my kids down to watch, but a few thousand other people had the same idea.....

For those of you who remember that video, "Betty's Department Store" and the Sunoco station with the gas pumps on the sidewalk were both on Main Street in Wharton. They're both gone now.)

I has relatives that lived in Elizabeth, and we'd go down Main Street in Madison to go visit them.

other tenants. In the storefront there was a shrink and a real estate/Western Uhion/ Avon Lady thing. HHhhhmmmm, the latter establishment was probably an underworld front. :)

28. I live on Main right now.

It is a town of about 200 people and is "Main Street" of yester-year. There are DUers who have been here-they can vouch for me--it REALLY is small town.

Before that, my husband and I lived on Main Street in Urbana, and that was a whole different slice of life. We lived there for several years and the neighborhood went to hell around us. We moved out after the SWAT team took out the neighbor's house one night. There is something about seeing a bunch of guys in Kevlar with a battering ram that cools your appreciation for your neighborhood...

It had a history as a party house. A band named Lonely Trailer lived there before we did, and before that it had been a group house for any number of people. I was AMAZED during the five years I lived there (93-98) at how many people told me they'd been to parties there!

And YOU? Were you in our area (perhaps a veteran of 801 E. Main) or were you on WEST Main? I lived in Landmark Apartments on West Main for a couple of years too...

36. Geesh. I don't remember the exact address.

It was a couple of blocks east of the courthouse--I think in the 600s. I only lived there a year. It was an old yellow brick building. There was a fire caused by actual arson while I lived there. Fortunately, no one was hurt. My neighbors across the hall had moved out shortly before, and their apartment was vacant. Their living room floor burned through. Huge hole in it.

Both in towns of less then 1000; in one of them I had the "penthouse suite"; a one bedroom on top of a old building in the center of "Downtown", which was one block long. Nothing much ever happened there, but there was a fabulous view of it! Man, that was a great place, though..
