Wish me Luck!!! I'm going to give the school board Hell tonight!!!!
Here's the situation: Our teachers, and we have some excellent teachers, are working without a contract. They have worked without a contract all year. They are also the only district in our state that has to pay for and take time off for, federally mandated con ed. They also have had more and more of their benefits taken away. Basically, there is no reason for good teachers to want to work in what is a blue ribbon school district anymore. Who has decided this? An overpaid blowhard of a superintendant and his merry bunch of underqualified board members, of whom have voted themselves a pay raise the past five years running...while smacking good teachers in the face.

How did Mr Superintendant think he was going to get parents on his side? By demeaning our intelligence and writing a lie filled piece of crap of an editiorial, comparing the median income from two years ago for families in our district to a made up (taking the highest paid teacher's salary and adding in $$$ for extracurriculars like coaching) median teacher income. So, he has basically told us we're too stupid to figure this out...in the hopes of driving a wedge. This man? He makes $70,000 more than the average family in our district...and of course that's supposed to be okay. Sigh....

19. Thank you sfexpat! This has been going on all year long...I sat for
awhile, but my son's kindergarten teacher said something that struck a chord. So now, I'm on it. But I need all the well wishes I can get. :hi:

17. Sadly, I realize that I am limited by time, the ability to provide my
children the education they need and deserve. So many are getting into homeschooling without any idea of what they are getting into...and their children are suffering for it...wouldn't you think? :hi:

dialouge from any but those who are in support of them. They usually sit and roll their eyes when parents come up. I plan on calling them on it. :hi:

7. Your school board gets paid?
Ours make no money, nada, zilch...

Our township commissioners are paid very as well...only $300 a month.

I think public edcation would be a lot better if we eliminated all the assholes between the superintendant and the actual schools.

WAY TOO FUCKING MANY PEOPLE in administration. Total waste of money, and most of them are incompetent useless middle-management paper-pushing fucks, anyway.

44. Well, you I wouldn't consider middle-management
You are actually doing something that's needed.

It's all the assholes we don't who add an expensive level of inefficiency and incompetence to the system and also provide nothing more than a barrier between the superintendant and the schools that keeps the schools from doing what they need to do, and keeps the superintendant from helping and guiding the school. That's the level of idiots that I want to get rid of.

Certainly, maintenance guys and kitchen staff and computer guys and the AV department are all necessary.

12. Good luck!!!
Our school board is meeting tonight also to RIF teachers. We don't have enough now!!! Funding is being cut again but the morons keep buying property and building and bonding us out. You may have seen my post on judges that also pertained to the schools. We only have ONE excellent teacher in this school system and trust me he is over whelmed. The whole system is screwed up!!! Bets of luck to you, if you are dealing with the same type of jerks we are you have your hands full. I remeber a school board meeting here over bonding that lasted til 1;30 am with angry parents upset over the bonging out and quess what they bonded us out anyway, over a brand new school administaion building!!! None of the schools in the system are as nice as that place.

When It was pointed out that we had a 5 million dollar surplus...he corrected the person saying,"It's really only 4.8 million"...I'm really starting to lose it.

13. Good for you!
We're fighting a huge battle here too. Last week the school district announced a plan to close 10 schools in a "cost-saving" measure that really won't save any money, once you factor in the costs of relocating all the students affected. One of the schools is the grade school I attended, and another is our neighborhood school here. Ugh. x(

Give that overpaid blowhard what he deserves!!!

41. That is SO common
And frankly, it's an outrage. I'm from a big public school-supporting family - my mom spent years as PTA president and was also the president of the whole consortium of PTAs for North Seattle. She wants me to run for school board - LOL - I don't have kids in public schools, but at least I care about them. :D

39. In Texas
we can not unionize and we are in the botton half for pay in the US yet we have been dealing with NCLB type crap the longest. The state officials are the ones we depend on for our big raises since most districts can't afford raises because of the diminishing tax returns and capped out tax bases. Anyhow, this year the stinkin' politicians voted themselves a fat payraise and we get squat.
