Do DUers mistake irony for sarcasm?
"Verbal irony is a figure of speech that occurs when a person says one thing but means the opposite. Sarcasm is a strong form of verbal irony that is calculated to hurt someone through, for example, false praise."

1. No, I think we're ALWAYS grammatically correct here.
That's irony.

Nice question, jackass.

That's sarcasm.

2. Sarcasm is when you say something that you don't mean and say it
in a nasty way: "That's just great!" (not)
Irony is wayyyyy more complicated. I have a poster of shrub on my car with a quote. He is saying something like the "the time has come where the evil murderous folks are being set apart from the peace lovers." Naturally, he considers himself a peace lover and the "terrorists" to be evil. THAT is irony.

7. We don't get sarcasm around here
We used to back in the day. But mostly today its the occasional double entendre. Some try their hand at innuendo but too often that comes off as just crass. I remember one particular practitioner of sarcasm attempted to make of go of it not too long ago but too many thought he was having a fit and tried to medicate him.
