Are you from Michigan?
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 04:26 PM by MrScorpio

Have you ever even been to Michigan?

Are you bordered on Michigan?

Have you ever flew over Michigan?

Do you have any Michigan connection whatsoever?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you're cool.

If not, you've got some 'splainin to do.

4. I've been to Michigan.
My aunt and uncle lived in Kalamazoo in the 70s. I was in Lancaster on business in '96.

I've also had more than one irritating experience with the Detroit airport.

They have been looking at some land. They think, for now, they will just get an old trailer and fix it up so that there is something on the land. Within a year or so of retirement they plan on building a log cabin on the land.

130. EKHS class of 1982! I live in Warren, now
I love Michigan and even if I won the Lotto, I'd stay here. I buy a big house on Grand Traverse Bay (hopefully on the Old Mission Penninsula) and keep a place in metro-Detroit.

Michigan is a beautiful place, with a lot of cool places to visit. There's the natural beauty places like Up North and the lake shores. There's the fun of a big city like Detroit and it's suburbs, where there are professional sport teams and a great music scene. There's small town America, like most of West Michigan, including Grand Rapids, a pretty big city with a small-town feel and some great restaurants. I'm partial to Yesterdog, Russ (dutch version of Big Boy) and the Arnie's chain.

93. Never had the opportunity to do that....
Winters up there used to be brutal. In the seventies... the winters were much colder than they have been the last few years.

I was raised in west Marquette county on a small family farm. I remember twice the temperature being minus 50 degrees. Forty below was fairly common.... in the last couple of decades 30 below is a rarity.

But... I will retire up there someday....the U.P. will always be my home. We (wife and two daughters) are currently planning our trips up there this summer.....first on the list...

The Hiawatha Music Festival in Marquette.... what a great time that is...

never think about where it is actually at. I have been there only once, as a very young child (there are pics somewhere at my parents house). The scenery is breathtaking.

There was supposedly a movie filmed in the last couple of years in the UP about a high school reunion. I have found it mentioned online but cannot find the actual movie anywhere.

49. I Love Michigan! We lived there for 4 years but had to move back
here to NW Ohio after hubby's plant closed. We still owned this house and it was better to be unemployed with one mortgage instead of unemployed with two. We lived in the Grand Rapids burbs, loved Michigan's beautiful trees, sand dunes and going to Lake Michigan.

66. Yes Army Corps Of Engineers
Great Lakes Survey hired me on for a diving job in Lake Superior (1963). My wife and I drove in our VW Bug full of diving gear and one dog, from Buffalo to Detroit. In Detroit I had an employment physical and paper work. Then we drove from there across the Great Bridge (WOW!) to Whitefish Point Coast Guard station where I met the crew I was to work with.

We traveled West to Newberry Mich where we rented living quarters.

The water was clear and cold and immense. Much of our work was done at and in the area of Little Lake. The waves crashing on the beach resembled those one might see in the ocean. It was October and it was snowing on and off.

On off times my wife and I spent many an hour searching the rocky shores for Agates. We visited Minonomee Falls(sp). The wilderness was/is beautiful. Along the lake shore were many abandoned Coast Guard Stations.

I earned a lot of money.

My cousin was an MD/Professor in Ann Arbor.

I've always wanted to travel the country, and the world, but I can't seem to get out of Michigan. I haven't been to Mackinaw Island in 10 years, so that's next. Haven't been in the UP for 6 years, so thats after. Maybe after I get to Sleeping Bear one more time I'll try another state. Or even Ireland. It's so hard to leave this state.
edit for crappy spelling

They're parallel roads, 1/2 mile apart. Come clean, you're dodging thru neighborhoods, to avoid traffic right? I won't tell the approximately one million cops we have in Sterling heights.:P

Did it again today. It dead-ends at the eerily named "Carpathian Club".
It must pick-up again somewhere else. I DID notice that when I turned down 17 mile from Utica, I passed Plumbrook AGAIN on my way to M53!
Plumbrook is EVERYWHERE!

117. Me too
My MI connections

Grew up in Detroit around State Fair and Gratiot.
Moved to Sterling Heights in 9th grade (went to Davis & Stevenson).
Went to MSU and lived in East Lansing. Met my wife there who is also from MI.
Go to grad school at Wayne State.
Lived in Harrison Township and Royal Oak.
Now I live in Sterling Heights again.

What a trip to see "Plumbrook and 16" and "Schoenherr" on here. I'm right by there. I'll drive down Plumbrook to pick up pizza slices from Nona's every now and then and that street turns into my parents' street on the other side of 17 Mile.

I really like camping in the UP.

About the only thing I don't like about Michigan is the Detroit Tigers - I was a very young St. Louis Cardinals fan back in the late 60's..........
