What Do People Think of Breast Implants?
The girlfriend of a buddy has just declared she is about to get breast implants. Feels she is "getting old" and needs the boost. Buddy seems uncertain about the whole thing. Says he's "never been" with a woman with implants.

Moi, I'm troubled by any woman who wants them and would like some perspectives from you wise ones out there who often provide points of views I would not come up with on my own.

Also troubled about the vulnerability of women who go for implants and wonder about the findings in this article:

1. I think they're ugly.
You can see these weird lines on the side of them. Plus for the most part they never look natural, especially if they're D cups on a woman who is 5'4" and 110lbs. Anyway... hope this doesn't offend any Duers out there with breast implants.

16. I'm 5'4 110 lbs
and I'd NEVER go to a D. I'd look like someone pasted basketballs on my chest.

I wouldnt mind being a B or even a C. But a D? No way. My back problems are bad enough let alone with the weight of a D cup. I come from a family who normally has natural BIG breasts (I got the short stick lol) and I hear their complaints constantly.. So, a bice B/C cup would be sufficient imo.

2. I think they can be a great asset to one's self image, especially for a
smaller, out of proportion woman who has gone flat chested with middle age.

My friend, a doctor, got them last year, and until this moment, I'd totally forgotten, she looks FANTASTIC and completely natural and normal.

3. Outside of women who need reconstructive surgury for breast cancer...
...seriously I can't understand this at all. I've watched some episodes of "I Want a Famous Face" on MTV (this isn't a contest, MTV finds people who had already make the decision for surgery) and follow them as they go through the procedure. I have to give credit though for MTV because they show the otherside of plastic surgery every episode which a quick story from someone who wanted to look like someone famous and ending up fucking up their body. And every one of those 'plastic-surgery-gone-bad' cases is women who got bad boob jobs.

12. Ain't nuthin' like the real thing, baby
I agree. Outside reconstructive surgery, I can't see the attraction to implants. As a guy, they look freakish to me (at least the ones I've seen on celebribimbos on TV).

4. I would never get them myself
but I do believe that consenting adults have the right to do whatever they want with their own bodies as long as they are fully informed about the possible risks and consequences.

People are going to do whatever they're going to do. I think the best way to discourage it is to provide accurate information. Everything I've read about them makes my flesh crawl personally, but that's just me.

5. I think it's up to the woman.
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 08:20 AM by BlondieK143
I think a lot of them see it as a confidence booster. Coming from someone who has no need for them, I don't think they realize what a nuisance they can be. To each his own, but I don't think adding a foreign object to my body for the sake of outside beauty is the right thing to do. I'd rather work on the inside of me for my self-confidence levels.

Edited to say that a breast cancer survivor I could see as a different view.

6. I think they are stupid
Fake is fake, real is real. Real is always better than fake. Those angry boobs that stick straight out that you could balance a plate of nachos on just do not look right.

Now, if a woman has cancer and needs reconstruction, that is a totally different deal. But for vanity??? Pffft! Spend the money on a maid to clean the house and a day at a spa, that'll perk the gal up!

7. Hideous when done for cosmetic reasons, IMO. >
That said, there are many other reasons for a woman's getting them (apart from reconstruction).

My first wife, for example, got implants while we were married. Her stepfather had sexually abused her throughout her childhood and paid particular attention to her "tiny tits."

So for her, getting implants was an act of reclamation, in a way.

about what it's like to be involved with someone whose had the job done too.

Is this something guys like?? Often wonder who do women do these things for any way?

27. It was different
I'm always the type that doesn't mind if other men look at the woman I'm with... I'm not the jealous type or anything. To me, it's actually cool when others look at the girl I'm with.

But, having dated a few women with implants following my ex-wife (who was barely 5 feet tall and a natural 34D, though sometimes a 32) filing for divorce, it wasn't anything special other than the initial attention the woman would get when she walked into a crowded restaurant. When it came to sex, it was kind of a distraction ('oh, that must be the saline bag') ... but, that might have been because it was never very long term and I didn't get a chance to get used to it over several months to a year.

So, to summarize, it was okay when her top was on, but more of a distraction when she took the top off.

11. A friend of mine
said that his girlfriend got them and they didn't do anything for him. He said they were hard and she really didn't care if he touched them because she had lost sensitivity with the surgery and it didn't do anything for her either.

13. Only for reconstructive surgery.
But I'm a B-C cup, and have always enjoyed my natural size.

If I was tiny, I think I'd still enjoy mine naturally. I could go braless. Or just wear the little racerback sport bra things with no wire. That would rule.

I find them to be false and ucky. So does reprehensor. He was very happy to find I was the real thing.

14. My whole life I've been flat..
yes.. flat chested.. I feel like my self esteem went up since I'm pregnant and obviously... guess what happens..

If I had the extra money, you bet I would do it. Shirts dont fit me, I have to get 'kiddie' bras, and when I was with a new guy, even my husband I'm still self conscious about it.

Now Im only 24 but I've always been teased through school about it, and even my neighbors daughter who is 13 said to me the other day 'wow *** you have boobs! too bad when the baby comes you'll lose them'.

On the other hand, I have a friend who got implants to go from a 36DD to a 36FFF. Thats insane... but its her choice. Shes also a stripper.

28. it's a cultural thing...
My wife was born & raised in China. After she gave birth to our daughter, she ballooned up from her normal 32A to a 34C. She looked in the mirror once and said, "oh, my breasts look huge. I'm so embarrassed!" And, the popular plastic surgeries for women in China are ones to make their skin paler/lighter or to make their eyes look bigger. Since there are 1.3 billion people in China, I imagine some men besides me find Chinese women sexy.

But, having frequented strip joints after my ex-wife filed for divorce and before meeting my current wife, there is a huge difference in the quality of implants & how natural they look.

17. Image has an effect on society
Whether one should reinforce this is debatable. But facts are facts. We are a visually oriented species. Image has impact. Personally I would prefer a society not so obsessed with a particular form or image. But it is a factor.

Full disclosure. My fiance amongst the many other wonderful traits that I love so much about her is a natural 38DD. Appearance should not be the only factor but it is a factor.

18. As a girl who had the
very opposite surgery done two years ago, I find this procedure very hard to understand. One of my closest friends got implants (not huge ones) because she was very insecure about her small breasts & didn't want to get close with any guy. Now, she's even more worried about getting close - because she's afraid they'll find out she has implants & think "She had implants & they're still this small??" I'll never understand her.

19. Nothing wrong with it, in my opinion
I have had relationships with women who had the procedure before we met (the last two as a matter of fact). It's different, and obvious, but not an indication of some character defect. They were just as messed up as everyone else in the usual ways.

I've never been with anyone that wanted it done while I was with them, though. That would be odd.

22. I was speaking of my experience
I certainly haven't done any scientifically controlled studies on the subject. I thought that was your intention; to get others' personal experience. And in my personal experience, those who have had breast augmentation are no different than those who haven't.

24. About 90+% of them look like shit
Especially if the woman is scrawny, it's bizarre to see the stack of ribs and then two uniform, unmoving melon halves bolted on at unnatural angles. I'd rather see near non-existent breasts than that nastiness.

25. I'm mostly anti-implant,
and I prefer small and natural to big and fake, however, I have seen some good boob jobs that I never would have guessed are fake unless I was told (or if I felt, but that was out of the question!). If she's adamant about doing it, I'd encourage her to shop around, find a good doctor, and check out some of his results.
