my bosses sent me flowers and I have a question

One of my bosses who works off-site ordered the bouquet, I think, and probably chose something off of an internet florist's catalog page. I think they're lovely. It truly is the thought that counts to me. I am very, very grateful (first of all to have a job!!). I've worked here five years and this is the first time my bosses have acknowledged secretary's day.*

But my "main" boss laughed at the bouquet and was a little upset: it's too small, the basket is ugly, the flowers aren't very nice, and the bouquet is too pink.

Now, I knew right off the bat that Main Boss didn't order this because it contains carnations -- every time she asks me to send flowers for her, she says "no carnations."

But give me a break -- being embarrassed about the bouquet I received? Is it me, or is that just a little, oh, I don't know . . . neurotic?



* The firm throws "Staff Appreciation Week" but the attorneys are on their own for recognizing their secretaries individually. Most do nothing.

they know they should have thought of it and feel dumb. Tomorrow you should probably see a gift certificate to a nice eatery or theater tickets or something out of pure, unadulterated shame.

2. Well, the card was signed by all four of them, so I think she was in on it

Maybe she's embarrassed that she didn't order it herself. But I do think more is forthcoming, because she apologized by saying, "don't worry, the festivities aren't over yet."

I don't need anything else. Their thanks are enough, and I really mean that.

Now, if the FIRM wanted to pony up a bit more . . . :7

she really, really doesn't like carnations and IS embarassed by the offering. Yep, a little neurotic.
