They cut him off as he was making an even bigger idiot of himself, so one has to question whether it was a "cut off" or a "save ass" thing.

3. With CBS, I think it was a keep the audience happy thing
You don't want to piss off all those Survivor fans and hell, they were forced into carrying it at the last minute anyway.
