This is excruciating.
someone posted this link in GD, a list of right wing celebs.

http://www.celiberal.com/theRighties.php

Now all my idols are being marked off the list, one by one.

Jen Capriati is my ultimate obsession. WAS. this hurts.

Capriati requests 'Bombs Over Baghdad' for warmups

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. -- At Jennifer Capriati's request, the 1999 Outkast song "Bombs Over Baghdad'' was played on the stadium public-address system before her most recent match at the Nasdaq-100 Open.

"I like the song, and I wanted to support the troops,'' Capriati said Tuesday through a WTA Tour spokesman.

Stadium court producer Bob Ruf said he previewed the rap song and was reluctant to play it. Ruf then listened to the song with a tour official, and they found a one-minute segment that they decided wouldn't offend anyone.

The chorus to the song goes: "Don't pull the thang out unless you plan to bang, bombs over Baghdad. ... Don't even bang unless you plan to hit something, bombs over Baghdad.''

1. Michael J. Fox is a Rightie?
Good luck with that Parkinson's thing, pal. Your RW buddies have no intention of helping you by supporting stem cell research which could possibly cure you some day. :eyes:

5. Those lists are terribly unreliable
But my best advice is to avoid the cult of celebrity entirely.

Appreciate an artist for their art and nothing else.

6. nope, I don't support the art of fascists and murderers.
No more Buffy the Vampire Slayer for me.

A few of these are new, a few are to vague to say one way or the other, but many of these are just names that appear over and over on these lists.

These artists won't get my $$$ or any other kind of attention. I HAVE to pay taxes or go to jail, but these nazis are not going to get rich off my disposable dough.

8. A completely legitimate viewpoint
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 11:36 PM by Mojambo
I don't necessarily share it, but I can see that.

There is a difference in supporting an artist who might be a republican and supporting one that is pushing hateful politics in their art (Toby Keith.)

Basically, if they're willing to leave it out of it so am I.

And some of these folks are just simply ignorant, I'm not sure it's fair to group them all in as fascists and murderers.

16. yes it is.
we are at war. our soldiers are dropping jelly gasoline on innocent children.

otherwise, I would agree, but these people have money, they have access to all the information and education in the world. they are responsible for their ignorance, and they will be held accountable in the next location I hope.

peace.

14. I agree. Right wingers will grab at straws to make themselves seem
popular. Granted, the least talented, least charismatic people on that list are likely to be Republicans or conservatives. But there's probably a whole shitload of middling "stars" on the list who are apolitical and will do any benefit if the money is right. All they have to do is be mentioned as part of the entertainment at a Republican dinner or something to be included on the right.

They consider Collective Soul righties because they performed for military people overseas and took a tour of an air craft carrier. I guess according to them Dems don't appreciate military people.

12. Wait a minute: Something in the explanitory paragraph caught my eye
"These celebrities have the courage to speak out in an industry primarily flooded with liberals. We encourage all of you to take extra effort to patronize these patriotic celebrities."

Courage to speak out? There is nothing courageous about kissing the president's ass. These people aren't brave, and they aren't heroes. They are pathetic sycophants.

15. Jon Favreau
The see why link leads to a blog by Jon but I can't find a single thing to indicate that he's a right-winger.

This is the closest thing I could find

March 24. 2003

"If anyone serving in the US or UK military happens to read this site, my prayers are with you and I support your cause and sacrifice. Despite what the media might lead you to believe, there are many others in Hollywood who share this appreciation."

-Jon

Because he supports the troops? Maybe supporting their cause could be construed as support for Bush, but I gotta say that's pretty flimsy.

Like I said, kind of unreliable.

17. true but the one about jen cap is devastating to me.
this was in 2003.

I don't know why the Outkast song was written in 1999, before even 9/11. maybe it was a metaphor, or a reference to the first gulf war (when these guys were in middle school?)

18. And the proof against Michael J Fox?
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 11:53 PM by Mojambo
A World-Net Daily opinion piece where the author gives an opinion...

A few Hollywood notables and heavyweights - Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Michael J. Fox and a few others - typically side with Republicans and conservatives on most issues.

That's it. Pretty iffy.

gary sinese is a rightie because he has made a statement in support of veterans' rights.

RW jagovs snatching @ straws to justify their inhumanity and prayers for a "trickle" when the oligarchs splash the tablecloth.

22. There is so much crap on that list ....
For example, it lists James Earl Jones. But in the article referenced, Jones talks a lot about the principles of ML King, and makes a throw away comment about supporting the use of force (this all before the war). I doubt JEJ is RW.

Billy Bob Thorton sends baby wipes to the troops and they list him as a RWer.

This is just trying to make RWers feel good, but its full of crap.
