Vehicle problem - heating- need advice
My interior heat is not working right. I have your basic switch on the dash board, 0-1-2-3-4, turn the knob... so, the fan works on 4 (high) but not 0-1-2-3. Any thoughts? Just noticed it thismorning taking hubbie to work. We have had a shitload of rain, and I do have a squeeky belt at the moment, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

1. Check your thermostat?
Someone told me once if your thermostat goes out, so will your heater.

Get a second opinion though, because I'm pretty clueless about cars.

3. thanks, I know a little bit, but nothing about heating.
I don't think it's the thermo though, because it does run, only on high though.

2. Quite likely, your thermostat is opening up too soon
Your thermostat is supposed to stay closed until ~190 degrees. Thermostats do age & fail. It is probably opening too soon, so the coolant water never gets hot. Do you have lukewarm air coming out of the heater vents? You are probably getting bad fuel economy, too. What make/model/year, btw?

4. actually, the heat, when on high, puts out normally
and no heat at all on the lower settings, the fan isn't even running on the lower settings. I have a Nissan xterra 2001. For what it is I get pretty good gas mileage, and I only drive 14 miles a day.

5. No wonder this country is is trouble...

People have no comprehension of anything anymore.

The problem is that the heater fan does not work in any speed except High.
Check the thermostat?

This is an electrical problem. Either a wire came off or if there is a resister in line that has opened up.

6. my husband says its your resistor pack
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 05:41 AM by ayeshahaqqiqa
the fan is controlled by a resistor pack. That's what is out. Shuoldn't be too expensive to fix, depending on how hard it is to find the resistor pack on the car.

BTW, he's an ASE certified master mechanic. Hope this information helps.

edited to add more information.

10. Sorry. I think you already have the answer....
the resistor pack. The resistor on the fan switch of the dodge van I drive at work goes out every couple of months. It will only work on high.
