...but only in the original Italian. The English "translation" (actually a completely different set of lyrics, with no connection except that they're also addressed to a girl named Gloria) verges on cultural vandalism.

7. I heard about it posting on DU the day it happened.

I felt bad about it. "Gloria" really takes me back to 1983 every time I hear it. That was a pretty good time for me personally, so the song, regardless of its merits, is good for some nostalgia.

I thought she had a great voice and was really sexy. Even when she put on a little weight. It just gave her a nice, cuddly rear-end.

it was kinda fun, but it loses something when you know you cannot jump in and flail away yourself. I sorta wanted to ask the one poster how he felt about our local "hero" Melissa Ethridge, but I am not a musical absolutist.

It was actually pretty disgusting, for all of the following reasons:

1) Taste in music is ENTIRELY subjective. I really don't care who you think is a good musician and who isn't. Your mileage is guaranteed to differ from mine.

2) Regardless of what you think about Laura Branigan's musical ability, she was hot. That William Friedkin video for "Self Control" was cold-shower material.

3) She was way too young to die.
