6. First saw him in "True West," the Sam Sheppard play
with Gary Sinise on an "American Playhouse." For years, I thought that was his greatest performance, absolutely unbeatable, even though it came so early in his career. You can find it on VHS (maybe even DVD and Beta!) if you look (try your library).

Now I prefer (and can watch over and over) his role as Tom Ripley (yes, that Tom Ripley) in a great film adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's "Ripley's Game." Little known film, but highly recommended.
