Who saw the original Star Wars when it first came out?
I saw it twice, in Cinerama. That was awesome, like at the beginning when that honkin' big spaceship filled the whole damn screen. Then along came that bad looking dude all in black. What a ride!

Second time was my second date with the future Mrs. Ironflange, we're still going strong. She's not interested in Star Wars anymore, and I haven't even seen Episode 2 yet.

1. I wasn't born until 1983.
So unfortantely I just missed seeing any of the original trilogy in theaters when they debuted. I did go see the Special Editions eight years ago, but meh. I prefer the true originals any day of the week.

3. I saw them all
I was a little kid, and was scared to death of Yoda...go figure. The little green guy and his creepy swamp freaked me out.

6. Opening day 1977 I was 13 and it changed my life. :)
That movie single handedly made me want to make movies. And I can honestly say, I fulfilled that dream. Thank you Mr. Lucas.

Here here
I heard about it and I didn't give it much thought.

After I saw a spot on Entertainment Tonight, I became a believer.

The researched everything that I could about it before I saw it in the theater.

I even called into a Radio show, back home in Detroit, and my tag line was that I knew a shitload of facts about Star Wars and didn't see the movie yet.

It came out in May '77, I saw it for the first time in November '77.

My take on it is; let Lucas do as he pleases. You'll hear very few complaints from me about where he takes it.

10. I was 10, and the trailer had looked dumb. Star Wars? Sounded dumb
I remember making fun of the movie poster before it was released.

My mom saw the movie and said she thought I would like it.

I saw it. Then I saw it again. And again. And again.

I'm still watching it.

14. I saw it at a drive-in of all places when I was six
It was a double feature of course so I watched "Star Wars" and then "Jaws." They are the first movies I ever remember seeing that weren't on tv.

20. It wasn't whether you saw it--it was how many times?
Edited on Thu May-05-05 12:24 AM by tokenlib
I saw it four times in the theater--but I knew a lot of people who saw it more times than that. It was the most enjoyable movie I ever saw in a theater.

I can't think of too many other movies that people saw over and over again with such excitement.

21. I think Star Wars was the first major multiple watched movie
I was only 12 or so when it came out, and I saw it twice.

But I remember on TV at the time, all the talk about people seeing it more than once, some seeing it hundreds of times, and the news people and everyone being blown away that people would go see a movie more than once.

I've seen it probably 300 times or more since then.

:-)

22. 7 Times during the summer of 1977
and many times afterwards, including an all-day theater experience when they showed the first, followed by the second, followed by the third - must have been 1985 or so.

I LOVED those films, spent hours searching out the swap meets trying to find a tee-shirt with a big picture of the Obi Wankanobe/Darth Vader light saber fight on the beam.

The music from the first Star Wars is still one of my favorites

23. 6 times, summer of '77
The summer I turned 8. :hi: Good thing my dad was a geek too - no home video in those days, you had to hope a grownup would take you to see it again and again.

The trilogy caught me at the perfect ages - all the way from "Wow, spaceships" to "Mmmm, Han Solo." (Not that I ever really stopped thinking, "wow, spaceships." I was just paying more attention to Harrison Ford's tight pants at 13 than at 8.)
