Anybody have SBC satellite? (Dish Network)
I am thinking of getting rid of Adelphia and getting SBC satellite (which is Dish Networks). It looks like it might be a bit cheaper than my Adelphia.
Do you like it? Is it worth the change? I see they also add Sirius radio in there too.
I would just get rid of it all together, but I am single and live alone, so I spend time watching some TV. I would miss Forensic files if I got rid of it. Oh, and Family Guy on Adult Swim..lol.

1. I switched from DIRECT to DISH about six months ago.
I had no complaints about DIRECT, but didn't want any more of my money going to Murdoch.

And, I'm so happy. True, DIRECT has NFL Sunday ticket, but I found I wasn't using it that much anyway.

The BEST part is FreeSpeechTV on #9415. It is a progressive station, and they openly state that it is progressive. I watched a fantastic piece, 'God in Government' last night. And I love Amy Goodman's 'Democracy Now.'

This station is critical in view of the fact that PBS is due to take a major veer to the right, per its new head honcho.

Is FreeSpeechTV part of a standard plan?

4. I don't know.
But it is group with a few university channels and LINK.

I'll bet it is, but you would have to call.

I hope not too much attention is focused on FSTV (Free Speech), except in the progressive community.

If the powers that be are aware of it, then it'll be bought by Murdoch, and turned into Oxyrush 24/7 (Mr. Limbaugh).

2. I switched for the same reason Maat, post #1, did and I like it.
I don't subscribe to HBO, Showtime or any of those channels, but I had to get the larger, more expensive programming package in order to receive c-span 1and2, LinkTV, FreeSpeachTV. The channels between Link and FreeSpeach have some interesting lectures, too.

5. Yep.
But I wouldn't advise listening to Brigham Young University TV too much - seems a tad conservative (HeHe).

6. I have Dish and I'm very satisfied with it.
The only problem I have is when it rains. And then I lose reception.

15. Uh-oh. We're not having that trouble.
Strange. I had that problem with DIRECT, but I haven't had it with DISH. Machines. They have a mind of their own.

17. Do you have a dog??
Our dogs (Labs) used to chew on the connection wires, and rain got into them (when we had cable)...

8. One caveat ... however ..
I did, as with DIRECT, have to get a special 8-box-router-thingie (Hubby is the Techie), because we generally have 5-6 boxes in our house (TV room, Master, Mommy's Office - anyone who complains gets shot, exercise/rec room, and Beloved and Exalted Daughter's room.

I guess I'm going to have to learn about the channelblocker, because 8-year-old is finally figuring out that there is more on there than Nickelodean (spelling?) and Disney.

10. Thanks.
It is called the 'Inner Sanctum' by my husband. When Mommy goes in there - she wants to be LEFT ALONE.

So, don't come in there whining. She needs a little DU time.

11. Highly recommend - make SURE you get the DVR option.
It'll completely spoil you for any other means of watching TV (pause, rewind, record live TV--if you're a sports junkie, you'll be in heaven).

12. That's one of the things I was looking at
Can the recordings be transfered out of there?

13. I'm not sure.
My husband and I have talked about hooking a recordable DVD player to the DVR, but haven't been motivated enough to give it a try yet.

Hopefully, they'll come up with an email option one of these days!
