Your Final Warning: (Ebay, watch out!!)
Edited on Thu May-05-05 05:17 PM by Sequoia
I got this strange email. I have never signed-up, ordered or posted anything on eBay so why would I get this? Sounds like a scam to get me to provide info to them because I only have two cards and neither expire on 11/05.

So, this is a heads up.

Subject: Your Final Warning From eBay

Place or Update Credit Card on File

Dear eBay,

During our regulary schedule account maintenance and verification we have detected a slight error in your billing information on file with eBay. This might be due to either following reasons:

- A recent change in your personal information (i.e. change of address)
- Submiting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
- An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due an internal error within
our processors.
Your credit card on file with eBay

Card number: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-4322 (Not shown for security purposes) Expiration date: 11/05

Please sign in to your eBay account and update your billing information:

If your account information is not update, your ability to sell or bid on eBay will become restricted.

1. The grammar used in that email should be the first clue
Edited on Thu May-05-05 05:20 PM by nini
they could at least take the time to have someone proofread it :eyes:

btw: I was told to never even click on those links to go to those sites, so you may want to disable that.

2. Report That to eBay Customer Service
They should have an e-mail address that you can forward that e-mail to. They'd be able to tell you if it's legit, or start tracking down the culprit.

3. forward the whole thing (with full email headers) to spoof@ebay.com
it is a fake designed to get you to give your credit card info to the crooks who will then charge it up the wazoo

spoof@ebay.com is ebay's investigative unit -- just forward it, you don't need to write anything. The email headers will allow them to figure out where it originated and hopefully to go after teh crooks that sent it.

They will reply to you what they find out.

If you don't believe me about spoof@ebay.com. go to ebay and dig around the site in customer service.

5. It's called Phishing
It's a scam used to lure unsuspecting people into giving out personal financial info. It's a huge source for identity theft.

Forward it to spam@uce.gov

6. You have been phished
Phishing is one of the most dangerous things the unaware internet user is facing.

I have gotten them from banks I don't have accounts at, Ebay, Paypal etc.

First rule for everyone, ignore them and never click the links they have.

9. It isn't really eBay's sight.
The link is fraudulent, and clicking on it can download really crappy spyware onto your computer.

Of course, being that you are DS1, I can't be 100% sure you're not somehow being sarcastic and you really already know the answer and are just waiting for some unsuspecting, know-it-all rube to supply you with obvious information...;)

You do have a reputation, ya know.

12. It is not, repeat, NOT an ebay site
Edited on Thu May-05-05 06:18 PM by emulatorloo
It is a fake ebay site. I get these crap emails all the time, and ebay has confirmed that they are fakes designed to get people to give up their credit card info.
