Woo hoo!! I finally have me some lanai furniture!
I got two swivel rockers and a little table.

YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

FINALLY, after years of waiting, I can sit out on the lanai and have a Martini and read the evening paper.

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

1. I never heard the word lanai until Blanche Deveraux.
Ah, Golden Girls....

I'm so jealous you have a lanai--they seem lovely.

How odd.

Thanks!

4. Well, they all did...
But her accent made it sound like an event rather than a place.

Every now and then they'd be like "where's so and so?" "oh, out on the lanai" or whatever.

Have fun with your martini and newspaper!

:hi:

6. Yep.
The Golden Girls are the one and only time I have ever heard it called a lanai. :-)

9. Of course she did
The show was set in Florida. They all use the word down there.

10. How bizarre. I had no idea it was used in Florida.
How did that trend start?

11. I don't know when it started
but almost every house has one, some with pools and hot tubs, and they all call them "lenais."

12. Well, raise my rent.
Musta been a bunch of Hawaiian tourists from Florida who brought the word back, or Hawaii natives who moved to Florida.

It's definitely a Hawaiian word.

Florida - it's like the world's weirdest place, isn't it?

7. In my mind, I do, and some day I will return to my true homeland.
But alas, not for the present time.

8. Our true homeland has an outpost in NYC
and why not? every other country in the world does! :-)

Hawai'i Cultural Foundation provided succor for me during the years leading up to my finally locating a job and settling here.

No one here can believe that I learned most of my 'olelo Hawai'i in "Nuioka" -- 'specially not since mine's better than most of theirs! :-)

Also don't forget the picnic in Central Park the first Sunday in June. Bring plenny grinds!

13. WoooHooo! - and me too!
I've had a little terrace garden for a while, but just yesterday secured a couple of second hand chairs and a small table. Now I can have my dinners al fresco in the warm weather, and sit and listen to the rain walk barefoot through the tops of the pines when I need to restoreth my soul. Save a martini for me? :-)

14. I just came inside from my first respite in the great outdoors!
Edited on Thu May-05-05 08:00 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Started to get a little chilly, and my Martini was finished, so I came in.

Here, let me pour your one - tonight, because I'm on vacation, it's Magellan gin!

And tonight, just because it's you and not someone else, and also because it's your birthday, though I'd do it even if it weren't your birthday, it comes with a footrub.
