Best dance routine in a movie?
I have to say, my all-time favorite is Elvis in Jail House Rock (the scene in the cellblock). A close second is Jennifer Beals' body double in Flashdance -- dancing to "He's a Dream".

7. I don't know if this is TRUE, but...
...I've heard that on the day he filmed that scene, Gene Kelly had the flu and a raging fever.

He seems like a "the show must go on" kind of guy, so I don't doubt it, but if it IS true, it makes the scene all the more impressive.

29. Singin' in the Rain -- Gene Kelly and Donald O'Conner...
I love when those two dance together. Gene Kelly was famous for his dancing, but Donald O'Conner definitely held his own!

What a great movie.

9. What movie was it where the guy dances on the floor, the wall, and
eventually ont he ceiling. In reality , of course, the set moved, but in the movie it looked like he was dancing on the ceiling. It was either Gene Kelly or Donald O'Connor.

12. well to go back a few years
*Gene Kelly's deceptively simple dance to the title song of "Singin' in the Rain"

* Donald O' Connor's vibrant "Be a Clown" from the same film.

* Fred Astaire "Girl Hunt" ballet from "The Band Wagon"

* Kelly and Leslie Caron's 18-minute ballet at the end of "An American in Paris"

*Astaire and Ginger Rogers' arresting "Do the Continental" from "The Gay Divorcee"

I could go on and on regarding the contributions to dance by Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.

what else? it was the best piece of dance set to film.

i thought the donald o'connor dance routine was called "make 'em laugh" and i like it as much as kelly's title dance in the film.

god, that is just such a great movie. compton and green were at their best there

27. That Elvis scene was hot...anything Fred Astaire...Austin Powers!
Fred Astaire is like a dream. He makes it look so easy, and he's so elegant. I find him extremely attractive, also.

I'm not an Elvis fan, but they showed a snippet of his "Jailhouse Rock" dance last night on TCM, and that was hot. I hate the whole on one toe/fake twisty thing he does, but it worked for that. Very energetic, very cool.

When Austin Powers came out, I was so blown away by that opening (kind of) dance number. So unexpected, so colorful, so happy...I liked it a lot. Was it the *best*? No, but it's one of my favorites.

I could name more...I love dancing in movies--I think Bollywood has a real cool thing goin', LOL.

31. !

Ladies and Gentleman,
Now the moment you've all been waiting for
The world famous Jack Rabbit Slims Twist Contest!
Now let's meet our first contestants here this evening
Young lady what's your name?

Mrs. Mia Wallace

And how about your fella here?

Vincent Vega !

Alright, let's see what you can do, take it away

You Never Can Tell

It was a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well
You could see that Pierre did truly love the madamoiselle
And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell,
"C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell

They furnished off an apartment with a two room Roebuck sale
The coolerator was crammed with TV dinners and ginger ale,
But when Pierre found work, the little money comin' worked out well
"C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell

They had a hi-fi phono, boy, did they let it blast
Seven hundred little records, all rock, rhythm and jazz
But when the sun went down, the rapid tempo of the music fell
"C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell

They bought a souped-up jitney, 'twas a cherry red '53,
They drove it down to Orleans to celebrate the anniversary
It was there that Pierre was married to the lovely madamoiselle
"C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell

It had a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well
You could see that Pierre did truly love the madamoiselle
And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell,
"C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell
