Get This:
I started a new job last week. The people are great, and I'm loving the place. Then yesterday I get this letter in the mail from the local Department of Children and Families wanting to interview me to be a Child Welfare Specialist. :wtf: Nothing for five months, and now I have people wanting to interview me. Damn Government. Oh and it's three grand more a year! This is pissing me off. I'm happy that i finally got an interview, but it's coming at the entirely wrong time.

1. Murphy's law strikes again!
Actually, there ought to be a whole 'nother name for this. I've seen it happen several time to different people (my husband included...). Seems you get nothing for months, than 2 or more things all at the same time! Glad you like your job, though, that's awesome! :)

2. It always happens that way

My rule of thumb is, apply for any government job about 6 months to a year before you need or want one.

I was even offered a Federal Government job 2 years after applying one time! I couldn't take the job it was a pay cut.

I'm glad things are working out for you! I wish you all the best! :loveya:

3. I've noticed that too...
I think the punch line of all the service sector people should
be changed from...

"I want to be an Actor/Actress."

to

"I'm waiting for a government job."

4. The same thing happened to me.
I was a petroleum chemist for 13 years. I decided to change careers and went back to school to study computer science. When the telecom industry took a hit I couldn't find a tech job to save my life. I was unemployed/underemployed for about 3 years so I decided to send out resumes and get back into the petroleum industry. Nothing! Finally, I applied with an airline for a flight attendant position mostly just to see if I could get an interview. Well, they hired me! Don't you know, just a week later I got a call from a company in Ft Worth, TX to interview me for the petroleum chemist position. I decided I like travelling too much to go back to the lab. :-)

5. I know the feeling.
Actually, last year I got a job similar to yours- mine was as a parent educator for a social service organization, but then I realized I couldn't take it. Between daycare costs for my son, my clinical work for nursing coming up in the Fall of 2005, and the costs of two separate households with my divorce, a 9-5 gig just wouldn't work for me. Then I got one job in December and the week I started (it turned out to kind of suck anyway), I was called for an interview by my current job (which is what I wanted all along as it's in pediatric medicine, nights, and a good segue between my first degree and the nursing degree I'm working on). I remember though last Fall when I thought I was going to go mad with my job situation. I sucked so much. In the long run, things have a way of ultimately working out. I hope things go well for you, Duckie. :)

6. I hope everything gets better for you too, Sarah.
You don't deserve to be going through any of the mess you're going through either. Hope it all works out.

7. Thanks.
There's all sorts of messes I don't speak of either. Life's not easy, but I hope eventually things fall into place in many areas. My line of choice lately: just keep pluggin' away.
