We have an enclosed porch on the back of the house, with a pet door to a large enclosed yard (for the dog). One of our cats sleeps in there at night, on a bed on top of the dog kennel.
I keep my vacuum out there too- it is too big to fit in my tiny broom closet.
This morning, I went out there to check on my seedlings, and my dog was sort of pacing around, looking behind her kennel. I moved it a bit, and saw two dead somethings. Shrews, I think. One wasn't dead, though - it moved away. As I watched, it kept moving back to the dead shrew, trying to pull it somewhere. I'm not sure where it was trying to drag it, but yeah, it was trying to drag its dead buddy somewhere.
My vacuum cleaner kinda smelled when I pulled it out yesterday. I turned it off and put it in the basement to look at today. After the scene in the enclosed porch, I began to wonder if, perhaps, something had been brought in alive and sought sanctuary in my vacuum. Yep. Dead shrew, in vacuum. And here I thought I just had to replace a belt. Sigh.
