I've worked with quite a few people who had daughters, and they can be a real PIA!!!

4. I don't have one, but I definitely was one
and i turned out ok. I still wonder how my parents put up with me at all, but they still love me and we now get along fine. I suspect it's just some super-human parental strength that you'll have to rely on to get you through the screaming tears and slamming doors and incredibly obnoxious self-righteous anger.

I don't envy anyone raising a kid like I was.

10. ..
"the screaming tears and slamming doors and incredibly obnoxious self-righteous anger."

It wasn't just you - I think that kind of behavior is incredibly common among teenage girls. You can almost predict what they will say:

Things are different now than when you were my age!
Why don't you trust me? (It's not YOU I don't trust, honey.)
Everybody else is going!
It's MY room!
You wouldn't understand!
You don't know me!
You don't give me any respect!
Why should I?
Why shouldn't I?
You NEVER let me do ANYTHING!

5. no, but I understand
I have three sisters...and my mom is not on speaking terms with my oldest sister. My oldest sister is basically selfish and shallow. And they both just sort of gave up on speaking. It made my wedding very odd.

I have another sister who is crazy in the special FReeper way. She is out in Iowa waiting for the rapture.:eyes: My mom screens her calls from her just so she doesn't have to hear the crap.

8. Girls are under a lot of pressure
and always have been. They are expected to be sexually attractive, yet sexually chaste, sweet, kind, and helpful, and morally "better" than boys. If girls don't measure up to Britney's looks, they are worthless by society's standards, even if they do have the other qualities. Is it a mystery why adolescent girls seem so moody? By the way, I feel that, if anything, the pressures on girls have gotten more intense in the past few years. The pressure to be thin and attractive is evem worse, but now girls must also be potential breadwinners.

12. I agree
Now days in the pop-cultured world it's tough. I remember being in high school (2001 was when I graduated) and it was tough. All the really popular and thin/pretty/stylish girls had boyfriends and I never had one. I had guy friends but that was really it. I wasn't thin but I wasn't overweight or anything either. I did gain some but I still was okay. I never wore makeup until after I graduated and started becoming more "femine" I guess. There is some pressure there and I remember how it felt not to be popular and on special holiday's not get any attention while other girls did from their boyfriends or friends. It's hard now. Too much concentrated on popularity and looks.

But so's my mom, so we understand each other. And my older sis is a goddamn psychopath, so I look alright in comparison.
