Our old IMac died this weekend...
We were told that it would cost about $250.00 to fix it. We have had this computer for about 6 years...the guy at the computer place said if we fixed it, we would probably only get a couple of more years out of it. We mentioned fixing it so that we could use it for our kids, but he didn't even recommend that.

So, we are trying to decide what to buy next. Does anyone have the new IMac G5? I am leaning towards that, but my wife is talking eMac.

Any advice will be appreciated.

1. Here are sites that track the best current deals
Personally I would avoid eMac (too heavy and bulky) and go iMac G5.

Another option would be the mac mini with a separate monitor.

Make sure you get at least 512meg ram for each.

3. The Mac Mini is meant to be a good deal.
I personally would avoid the eMac like herpes. I used to work on one, and consider it to be a really crummy machine.

I was computer shopping yesterday and though the G5s were beautiful - but so expensive! This was, however, in the UK where electronics are pricier than the states.

5. Thank you for those kind words of support...
...they really mean a lot in times like these. If anyone would like to send a casserole over, please feel free to do so.
