A serious question about significant others
From what I know, in male mammals, the size of the testicles is related to how many mates the the male can handle.
From what I read recently, with this idea in mind, it is thought that the size of human testicles imply that men should have approximately three partners.

4. I have no opinion on the matter re: "shoulds."
It all depends upon the mindsets of the people involved. We humans have a nasty habit of turning nature on its head. Of course we are biologically inclined toward polygamy, but biology has been confused time and again by our actions. I have been in relationships in which I wanted multiple partners, I've been in relationships in which I've been satisfied with one. It's fluid (like much of sexuality, in general).

12. Hi CaliforniaPeggy
That quote is from the "Dark Tower" books by Stephen King. The gunslinger is Roland Deschain, the last in the line of gunslingers in a world that has moved on. Similar to the Knights of the Round Table.

8. Not me, cool. Having three women would mean
less time to spend with Mrs R.

And keeping track of the likes / dislikes / names / preferences / birthdays of three women? I can't remember where I left my goddamn car keys, much less remember all that.

13. Shit, I musta tossed the link...
Can't find it in my cyber basement BUT a South American indigenous tribe believed it took 3 men to conceive a child. A fat belly meant high-fives all around and a shared responsibility that the child survive. Damn that science!!!

14. I don't know about this
but the idea of men needing multiple partners for sexual gratification (not procreation - then multiple partners make mathematical sense) never held water.

I mean, most men have trouble pleasing one woman, and when they're done, well, they're done if ya' know what I mean, unless there's some major Viagra popping going on.

But women? They are always ready for the next partner and they can have multiple orgasms all day without any pharmaceuticals. So it always seemed like men were living in some fantasy world with this concept, while multiple partners seemed perfectly plausible for a woman.

So, I discussed. But I bet that wasn't what you wanted to hear!

21. I think that relates to CAPACITY
That indicates how many a male CAN handle, not NECESSARILY how many one SHOULD "handle". I believe it depends on the individual and those involved in deciding how many partners one should have a relationship with. I have heard of men having 3 wives and it working out very well. There is no one answer to this, anything that works for a given situation should be done.

30. interesting
"anything that works for a given situation should be done."
i like this, because things aren't always so black and white and each situation should be treated on a unique and individual basis. very true, and capacity would have been a better word for me to have used.

24. One mate is enough, thanks
I can barely handle her, sometimes, but I mean that in a good way.

True story: I used to hang out with some folks that had a multiple partner scenario going on. The alpha male in this setup had a wife that he was legally married to. They were both involved with another woman, and they had this nice little threesome thing going on. Then he decided to get a girlfriend on the side. He had two kids, three women vying for his attention. Ol' boy was tired an irritable most of the time.

He had a brain aneurysm at age 43, while in the middle of coitus with his GF on the side.

26. I think your science is shaky
For example, cats have very tiny balls but can mate with an ridiculous amount of females. That's just one example.

For most human males, if they mate with more than one concurrently, those necessary items risk being cut off which would impede the whole production nicely.

27. Three partners concurrently?
That would be a workout for a lot of guys. Even if one were physically "up" for the challenge there'd be another set of social and psychological things to deal with, like polygamy, polyamory, open relationships.........
Just give me one good partner.

Monogamy works for me, but for those that it doesn't, then this is good news.
