4. My husband's Canadian
14 years ago, but I don't think the whole INS thing is as bad when dealing with Canadians, plus we were married & living in Ontario for 6 years before deciding to move to the US.

What's up?

8. It's all pretty much the same, then
You've already been through the initial tough part. All they're really looking to do is verify and confirm. Piece O' cake! :)

7. Married to a french
And, yes, we went through the INS wringer, and that was in the 90's. I'm sure it's worse now.

Had to do the interview and everything. Showed up with all of our photos together, our love letters, the whole thing. I guess we read as legit immediately, because our interviewer didn't want to see any of it. She just asked me to sign a paper saying that I would support him if he became unable to contribute to the household income or became ill.

We were disappointed that she didn't even want to look at our cute pics. Then, when we got to the parking lot, we continued the fight we were having when we went into the building. I had spilled a good amound of coffee in the newish car after he asked me not to drink coffee in there. Our interviewer came out right after us, but we didn't see her. As she walked past us, she nodded her head and said, "Yep, you're married, alright!"

So, even after this, we ended up waiting another 2-3 years for his permanent residency card, and in the meantime had a couple of difficulties coming back into the country once, but that's another story...

12. No, but I am the foreigner
born in Germany and became a citizen at age sixteen but then had my citizenship papers stolen in the Bahamas and it took me sixteen years to get a copy from the INS. Can't tell you how many years and how many dollars and how much stress I went through to get a copy. Word to the wise...DO NOT LOSE YOUR PAPERS!

Done with the INS saga... Not that bad really... The final interview for naturalization is kind of fun... most US people don't know the shit foreigners are supposed to know... :)
