a sincere mea culpa to my friends here
NEWS FLASH: Bertha has made a very important life decision is a hoax.

These paragraphs are totally bogus:

"Because DU is the absolute center of my life . . . ."

"I have decided to give up trying to lose weight. . . ."

"Now: what's for dinner?? We're having pizza . . . ."
(except tonight we are having pizza, and i'm not having it for lunch)

These paragraphs are true, word for word:

"Last year I found a fantastic weight loss program, and I gave it all I had . . ."

"I am quite healthy, even though . . . ."

"Long ago I accepted my body . . . ."

And this paragraph is half true and half false:

"So there you have it. Not only do I accept my body, I'm keeping it this way."

So to those I distressed, I apologize. I will reply to your responses in that thread later on, or tomorrow. I really will.

I do love DU. This place is full of love and support. But it's totally NOT the center of my life. ;)

3. I tried to lose weight. I gave up on it.
Instead, I decided to tone my body. It has been better for me to increase my exercise and not diet than to keep the vicious diet circle going.
And I am starting to look better than I ever did when I was starving. I look leaner and I don't feel hungry all the time.

4. The notion is appealing.
Exercise is a matter of inertia for me: you know, a body at rest tends to stay at rest.

:hi:

5. Maybe it will help you too.
I just realized one day that the dieting wasn't helping me. I always felt hungry and tired. I quit dieting and increased my physical activities. My clothes are too big now. My legs are more toned. I enjoy my workouts. I never feel hungry.
I don't overeat but I do take time to enjoy what I eat. And I think that I am healthier now than when I was in high school and I weighed 92 pounds. I think that I look better too.
That might be the better option for you.

17. inertia is a pain!
I'm so with you on that!

Hey Bertha, I don't always post back to ya, but I do enjoy reading you.

Kinda confused by the OP here and the link, but that's ok, no biggie.

Every positive act we do for ourselves and others is GOOD!

anyway, about walking--I got a little cheapy pedometer, after reading somewhere that it was helpful. It seems to be inspiring for me...

Well, anyhow, :hi: and take care!!

6. Fuck 'em all
Start by improving your emotional health. Self-loathing is FAR more destructive than even 200, 300 pounds of excess body fat.

I read the thread. Half of it's the written equivalent of intestinal gas, directed at your face; moralizing, self-aggrandizing pseudo-medical horse shit. Don't put up with it.

The only apology you owe is to yourself. ONE apology. Period.

Recover your sense of dignity. Once you have that covered, THEN you can entertain notions of losing weight and conforming to the Personal Responsibility™ cult.

I like DU, too, but it can be one big insane asylum.

The post that I linked to above? Where it says I've given up trying to lose weight? It's a joke.

I didn't mean to confuse any DUers.

are you saying you can live with the diet, and that you are not going to go wild and crazy with food? I'll support you either way, darlin'!

18. Well -
I didn't take the other post as if you were going to glue yourself to the couch and stuff yourself forever... I just thought you were saying you'd accepted who you are and fuck anyone that tried to treat you as less of a person for a few extra pounds!

FWIW - I thought the "center of my life" thing was tongue in cheek, and I didn't really think you meant to subsist on ice cream and pizza for the rest of your life. ;)

So, Bertha - you still get a :toast: from me!

23. Too funny!
I start small when I'm lagging. Some days that's all you can do - just a bit. Aim for fifteen minutes and reward yourself with something.

Find some beautiful place to walk or some project around the house and just go for fifteen minutes. Once you get going, you want to keep going past the fifteen minutes. But you don't have to!

You can grab a donut and DU as a reward!!!!:) :donut: And then do another fifteen minutes later on.....
and so on....
