Edited on Wed May-25-05 12:54 PM by LynneSin
Seriously,

I'm sometimes so fed up with this country that it would be nice to have a place of our own amongst smart, intelligent, witty, progressive thinking people. All we need is about 3-4 acres outside of the US juristidiction where we can build some lodging, raise some crops and animals and live in a society where we don't have to put up with the crap from the Bush Regime.

Here's a start on some properties!

How about Nicaragua

http://www.tropical-islands.com/Lime1.htm
9 acres off the coast of Nicaragua
$450,000 and the owner will help finance half of that which means we need to come up with $225 and some form of income from the island!

WE could have so much fun with this!!!

...then they are welcomed to the island!!!

Of course we would have other animals which we would need for food & work (ie chickens & horses), those are allowed to breed!

Edited on Wed May-25-05 01:20 PM by LynneSin
We could probably just require that dog owners keep their dogs fenced in some way so they're not going around digging up people's gardens or something.

Edit note: THen again many progressives I've met who own large dogs are usually very responsible dog owners. Not like some neighbors I've had in the past that let their pitbull go running around crazy without any training or boundaries.

That's a small city. 3-4 acres won't cut it. We'll need an island about 50-75 miles across. If we can find that, I'm in.

48. You're missing something (besides money)
people with actual island living experience. And no, Manhattan and Long Island do NOT count.

I'm starting to hear the fundies' footsteps on the island I'm on, so, in the words of the immortal Frasier Crane, "I'm listening".

What you're looking for:

A source of fresh water. Never can tell with droughts these days.

Someplace out of the main hurricane/cyclone path (bearing in mind that El Salvador just got whacked with its first hurricane ever).

Another island with an airstrip within a reasonable boat ride.

More than nine acres, quite a bit more in fact, if you're actually looking to rasie crops, livestock, etc.

An intriguing possibility is aquaculture; here I must defer to opihimoimoi who has been at it for years (in fact, his name derives from it).
