Thousands And Tens Of Thousands Of Years Pass
Civilizations disappear.

Continents and governments and institutions disintegrate.

Generations die.

People die.

You die.

So what the fuck are you doing here, in this place?

Why the fuck are you here?

Get a fucking grip and talk to us.

It is not that complicated, unless you choose to make it so.

1. well, my mommy and my daddy were by this river bank outside of Charlotte,
North Carolina some time in early 1957, and they decided to get a little rambunctious. And that is why I'm here.

i have this going through my head all the time. people keep telling me i need to finish school so i can get a good job and college is important...but i don't understand why

i just want to live my life while i still have my youth and energy, so in january i'm quitting school (at least temporarily) and moving from milwaukee to san francisco because i'm bored and i want to shake things up a little bit.

i just want to live life, and if i grow old i want my main regret to be that i didn't have enough time to try it all. i would rather regret mistakes that i have learned from instead of regretting never having tried in the first place.

ultimately, what we do on this earth doesn't matter for shit. it may have a lasting effect for a couple hundred or even thousand years...but eventually the sun will collapse and what then?

4. I'm here because I'm tired of fixing bugs & coding, and I like all the
purty colors at DU. Anyway, I expect the thunderstorm to knock me offline any minute, so I'm not "talking" much.

So be it.

you can see that.

I meant your life on this Earth.

7. Good luck to you
You could find your fortune and live a life of great adventure and have many fond memories when you grow old. Or you could end up like me and just be happy that you have a job and a place to stay.

I tried what you are describing. Didn't work out too well. But you are right about one thing. At least I can say that I tried.

13. i figure that everything happens for a reason
which is weird because i'm not a religious or spiritual person at all...in fact i would sometimes find myself sitting in the atheist camp.

but i feel like the universe just has a way of working things out, and things will work out for me if i can just do the right thing.

8. You are a superior human being, mark414.
But what you do on Earth does matter.

More importantly, what you cause to happen to others along your way in this life.

11. yeah i suppose you are right
i am a strong believer in karma and always try my best to do the right thing. i suppose it is the cynic in me that wants to believe that nothing matters.

15. I think part of life is the search for answers to these questions.
Why am I.... these questions have been pondered by man since he first looked up into the night sky. Maybe life is a journey and a destination?

You may drive trucks and smoke cigarettes.

But that is not why you are here.

19. Why isn't it?
That's what my Karma seems to be. I was even born on 10-4.

As far as great important things that I might have to do in my lifetime goes trucking is very important.

As far as personal aspects of my life goes if there is anything that I might be meant to do it is educating people about mental illness.

17. If you want the time to explore those questions seriously
you need money.

Food, shelter, and the relief from fear of losing those are the prerequisite to answering those questions.

Among other things, practicing love, sympathetic joy, compassion and equanimity toward all sentient beings, including myself.
