Garrison Keillor has the right idea - be unabashedly liberal
Edited on Thu May-26-05 09:18 AM by Richardo
I usually catch 15-20 minutes of Prairie Home Companion while driving errands on the weekend, and I've noticed that during a number of recent performances Garrison has come out and stated that he's a knee-jerk liberal. (He even had George McGovern on the other day). It might be during a sketch, or in a throwaway remark during a monologue, but he puts it out there for everyone to hear.

This strikes me as a very good thing - the cons have done their best to make 'liberal' a perjorative, and to a large extent it has stuck - I even found myself equivocating about it here in my red state ("I'm really a moderate.")

But I'm not - I'm liberal, and in much the same way that the GLBT community has turned around the former perjorative 'queer', I think it's within reach to turn around the perjorative 'liberal'.

That's all - you may resume your embryo-intensive posting day. :)

2. Have you heard his song, "We're All Republicans Now"?
It's pretty hilarious.

I'm surprised those NPR people let him keep his show.

I'm a liberal too-- but not knee-jerk, though!

4. I have a tee shirt that I wear all the time
in this red state that says on the front "Since when did loving people become a bad thing?". On the back it says "I'm liberal and I'm proud."
I had a tee shirt shop make the shirt for me. It gets alot of attention here in Bush country.

7. Never been ashamed at all.
When people ask or say something I tell them that I am a far lefty, bleeding heart liberal. I simply do not care what they think. I refuse to deny it, it IS something to be proud of.

8. I admit that I am a left wing liberal, and if people challenge me
I can knock 'em down with facts. But I don't do it at parties if i can help it, because everyone hates that guy who won't shut up about politics

9. True that.
I find myself getting overly strident sometimes. It's a fine line to walk.
