probably somewhere cooler than here (se texas). last year we went to seattly. LOVED IT!! but so hated the "long" plane ride. maybe disney world again. it is the happiest place on earth. but since that baptist group has stopped their boycott i worry they might be there. hmmm..

2. New England
There is no place more beautiful in September and the weather is beautiful. Warm sunny days (but not hot) and cool, crisp nights.

However, if you consider a flight from Texas to Seattle long, it might not work for you. ;)

3. Funny, I was going to suggest Maine.
We went up there a fall or two ago, and it was lovely. We spend a week there every summer.

6. That's a good deal, I must admit
My hubby is a real stick in the mud about any kind of trip. He'd just as soon be home. Works out nicely for us though because I actually prefer to travel alone. In April of 2004 I flew to Vermont for a visit with family, then ended up buying a car on a whim and driving it home to California. He was fine with me taking two weeks longer than planned to get back and I had an absolute ball. We go camping together and that's fun but for long trips, I fly solo.

7. Orlando will still be hot in September.
My suggestions would be Quebec and/or Montreal. It's the poor man's Europe.

8. San Diego is nice in September.

And its not the peak tourist season. You'll get better rates on hotel rooms, not too crowded at the beach.
C'mon down! I'll be your tour guide.

10. Kansas City.
Make it the end of September, or better yet, October if you can. We have one of the best Octobers anywhere, reliably dry and mild.

There's a lot to see and do. Union Station has a science center. The Truman Library in Independence. The Truman home also in Independence. The Frontier Trails museum. You could go to a Royals game or a Chiefs game if you're so inclined.

Best of all, is the Steamboat Arabia museum. This is absolutely the best museum of any kind anywhere I've ever been in, and I've been to a lot. I even used to be a docent at the Natural History museum of the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, so I hope I have some credibility. It's worth the drive here just for that.

Lots of other small museums, such as the Johnson County, Kansas one. Several historical houses. Pretty good barbecue.

Really, do consider coming here. It's not a normal tourist destination, but well worth it.

Do drive up sometime between Thanksgiving and the end of January to see the Plaza Lights. There's nothing anywhere else in the country quite like that!

15. Yep. Good BBQ.
One of the very best is a place called Oklahoma Joe's. It's attached to a garage, as in a service station.

12. Yellowstone in September is fabulous.
Fly into Cody Wyoming on either United from Denver or Delta from Salt Lake City..

A ticket to Yellowstone is also a ticket to Grand Teton and is good for a week. Cheap at any price

That whole area is awesome. A short drive southeast of Cody is Thermopolis, which has a humongeous hot spring that feeds several indoor swimming pools, and a public bath, plus there is a cool dinosaur museum

Buffalo Bill Museum of the West in Cody is HUGE

Allow at least 2 days for Yellowstone and if you want to stay in the park, plan ahead...way ahead..even in September. There are towns with hotels near all the entrances to the park, Yellowstone borders Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.

My favorite month to visit there. MANY museums and historical sites too. Hiking through Central Park is one of my favorite things to do also, and it has a Zoo!
