What is the proper way to conduct a drinking contest?
Magic Rat's poll got me thinking about drinking contests. I am sad to say that the last time people who I know wanted to get into a drinking contest it was a fiasco. First of all they wanted mixed drinks because they thought that drinking straight shots would be yucky. :wtf: If you can't handle shots then you have no business being in a drinking contest IMHO. The icing on the cake is that one of the contestants immediately claimed to have drunk 18 shots worth of liquor before showing up and demanded that they be counted in the total. Are my friends lame or what?

1. Yes - your friends are lame.
Only shots done in the presence of the contestants and judges count. And it has to be shots. No mixed drinks. What kinda weenies are you hangin' with?

3. One guy was drinking shots and always made sure to drink them with me

I was the judge. I was angered by the lack of seriousness that they gave to the endevor. They were just wasting our time.

It seemed that they guy who claims to be the biggest drinker couldn't bear to abide by any rules.

6. I could see beer instead of shots.
I was even willing to bend the rules to allow highballs. I told my friends that they were acting like a bunch of weenies. They said that they didn't care. Which makes me wonder why they even challenged each other to a drinking contest since they dismiss drinking real drinks as stupid machismo, why should they care who can drink more then?

2. Lame indeed, all the way around - it's not a game
Sorry to poop on the party before it starts, but I really can't say that there is ANY way to properly conduct a drinking game, particularly if the host/hostess of the party has not confiscated car keys prior to the commencement of overimbibing.

Drunkenness is overrated; hangovers are SERIOUSLY overrated, and driving drunk kills...

In loving memory of my beloved daughter who was killed by a drunk driver (who had been playing drinking games at a party, and had a BAC twice the legal limit)...

7. I am so sorry about your daughter.
DWI kills innocent people. Never do it, myself. I did plenty of it in my younger, stupider days but was lucky enough to never hurt anyone. There but for the grace of God go I.

9. Thank you bunnyj
She was planning her wedding at the time of her death, and left two small children who were too young to remember her...
Hate to get too personal but I really cringe to see the continued popularity of drinking to excess.
Just had some nasty riots here at local college homecoming, due largely to intoxication, and another young woman in our community lost her life just last week in a DUI accident...
Just makes me very sad - what a waste.

8. I think this topic might be covered in Roberts Rule of Order

Try - Art. I. How Business Is Conducted in Deliberative Assemblies.

Section 3, Obtaining the Floor sounds promising if you are drinking shots.

12. another one
(altho HIGHLY STUPID and an easy way to get alcohol poisoning): in college, one of my friends had the same idea (it seems that young guys have to learn not to be idiots on their own, I'm not singling you out mind you, I'm 24:) of doing this, so here's how we did it:

A beer every 10 minutes until there was 1 man left. 3 of us did it, and myself and 1 other guy made it to the 3 hr mark, after which point we passed out in our rooms and threw up on ourselves (like I said, sheer idiocy). Easy way to determine a winner tho.

14. These guys won't drink beer either. Don't like the taste and claim...
that it is too weak.

13. one pint
head to head, no spillage.

No need to get totally wasted. Just one pint. And another to debate who won, and who spilled more than they drank.
