3. Depends what you're eating.
If it's soup, of course not. :P

The nan bread is good for scooping up rice and sauces... that's the standard way to eat that stuff.

Mmmmmmm... this your first time going? Enjoy!

7. No no no -I've been eating Indian since I was a little kid
After living in NYC I saw people eating with their hands so I tried it and I enjoy it all so much more. And there's nolearning curve as there was when I started using chopsticks. I'm allabout the "when in Rome" principle.

6. I also eat fried chicken with my hands.
I don't understand this overuse of cutlery I see so often. I've seen people cut fried chicken with a knife and fork....even pizza.

At Indian restaurants I use my hands...

God, you can wash your hands, people! They even have wet-naps now!

33. I eat pizza with a fork too -
For one thing, I like pizza with a lot of toppings on it - a knife and fork means they don't all fall off. Also, with a knife and fork, you can eat it all and have it be warm. Otherwise, you have to either A) burn your mouth or B) wait for it to all get cold.

If you eat vindaloo and wear contacts wash your hands many times. It's really fun.

16. indian restaurant, no; indian friend's house, yes
i've never seen even indians eating food with their hands at an indian restaurant.

but when visiting a friend's house, i eat as they do, which, in the case of my indian friends, is with their hands.

24. Does Indian food contain a lot of curry b/c if so, I
will not eat it. I haven't had it, and honestly, I am scared to eat it b/c I don't like the seasonings they use (same goes for most Asian cuisines).

but there are milder dishes.

Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 03:10 PM by jpgray
It ought not to curry you out--not too different from a dry-rubbed steak depending on the chef and the yogurt sauce or whatever they're using. That clay oven is a magic thing--certainly there's more to Indian cooking than just curries.

35. I would think so, but I can smell the Indian restaurant
when I am not really that close to it b/c of the strong seasonings they use.

29. Not even in India
In India, I didn't. And I was travelling rough. Most places would give you a spoon. If not, I carried one in my day pack, that accidently stowed away with me when I left a plane.

I met a German bloke who was studying sitar. He ate with his hands and literally finished the meal with food reaching up to his elbows.
