I just saw Hulk today
And, man, was it awesome!

The cool part was when he became Lou Ferrigno and became the misunderstood monster everybody wanted to kill... For 1978, this show was nicely done...

Come on, do you REALLY think I'd ever see something in the theatre where they couldn't afford people to do the movie so they resorted to cheesy computer effects?! I saw that movie's teaser and trailer and the computer effects were horrible...

1. I agree
Even in the ads, the compositing was AWFUL!!!

Ever since Clone Wars, I've noticed that digital EFX are becoming more 'painter'-like and less photoreal.

2. Stick with the 78 version....2003 sucks.
It could have been good, and the effects weren't THAT bad, but it was just one of the laziest pieces of filmmaking I've seen in a long time.

P.

Here's my review of it from another site:

What a pile of old man's pants. This film is incoherent and confused - in fact I haven't seen this much confusion since George W. Bush was offered a choice of shovels and told to take his pick.

Now my girlfriend enjoyed this and tells me that I expect too much of action films. She said that this Hulk was exactly what she expected. Well comrades, I say that we shouldn't accept this! Why should we expect action films to be utterly inane drivel and then hoover them up like sick little puppies whenever Hollywood decides to vomit them over us? Don't get me wrong! I liked Spiderman, I loved X-Men, I like lots of ridiculous action films like Under Siege. But just because it's an action film with good SFX that doesn't mean that you can ignore basics like plot, character, humour, acting, coherence and the occasional surprise or twist.

WARNING - PLOT SPOILERS.....not that there's much plot.....

Hulk doesn't know what it's doing - it introduces all sorts of interesting ideas but then doesn't make any real use of them, skimming over them without deriving any benefit from their inclusion. For example, the introduction of the 'love rival' with no real explanation for the animosity between the characters or further development. In fact, all the characters are characterless, and I really couldn't care what happened to any of them. Bruce's father's character, played by Nick Nolte is again, utterly confused. Is he seeking forgiveness and reconciliation?....Or does he just want Bruce's powers for himself?.... Or has Nick Nolte just wandered in off the street after one-too-many pints of Brasso? Who gives a toss? The director doesn't know or care so I don't see how I'm supposed to. When he finally does something interesting and develops his own super powers we see them in action once and then that's it until the absurd ending. They could have been really funky!!!

Conversely, an absurd amount of time is spent on things that don't really matter at all, especially at the start. Too much pseudo-science and technical mumbo jumbo delay the Hulk's actual appearance for what seems like years. Flashbacks which should be explanatory are laboured and tedious. Visual effects (like the "comic book" style framing and multiple images onscreen at once) don't look stylish, they are clumsy, and they just add to the overall lack of coherence.

Also, this film is also unbelievably cliched - yes, OK so we probably all know the plot from the cartoon, comic or TV series, so I shouldn't have expected too many surprises. However, I would have hoped for at least a few changes from the original to make the whole thing more interesting. If you're just going to do the same thing AGAIN but with better special effects then you might as well not bother.

Returning to the cliches; well it covers pretty much all of them really.

Scientist's project gets canned so he starts experimenting on himself?
Adopted when a young child, but actually an evil parent survives?
Evil scientist and military want to capture and experiment on Hulk to make money/weapons from his powers?
Girlfriend's estranged dad runs local military base and tries to use his influence to stop her helping Hulk?

All present and correct.

And so to the absurd ending......firstly, it takes place entirely in the dark, so you can hardly see what is going on. Great. Then you have Nolte's new super powers which have hardly been introduced and are just ridiculous. It felt like the director had said, "Right guys, we've wasted loads of time on random crap and it's 4:30 on a Friday. Let's just make him into a big electricity monster, get the girl to talk about absorbing ambient energy and then we can all go down the pub." Arse. And last time I checked, you couldn't track land-based objects through canyons using radar....double arse.

So is there anything good in there? Well, the effects are pretty damn realistic and there is quite a lot of top quality smashing. However, we have to wait ages for it to start and then the action scenes themselves each go on for too long. That's about it. There's no suspense, no empathy with any of the characters, no plot development, no good acting and nothing to keep you interested. I actually got very bored during this film.

Truly the best aspects of this film are the splendid cuteness of Bruce's girlfriend and her father's hilarious moustache.

As I say, my girlfriend liked this but I thought that it was clown shoes.......AVOID!
