How about the poor girl who got killed by a shark in Destin?
It is really sad. I feel for her family. She was a beautiful girl. It's hard to remember that the ocean is the home for sharks and that is their territory. They can be unpredictable. For all those beach goers this summer, just keep that in mind while you are frolicking in the ocean. Don't venture too far out!!

1. Well don't sleep in the woods either
A couple in Alaska were killed by a grizzly.

Come to think about it, I've got gators in the river across the street. I better stay in the house....

But, there's two large dogs in here. They might flip out and eat me.

3. I don't want people to stop living. Or the be scared of everything.
But you have to be careful when you are in a wild animal's territory. Usually the shark attacks that do occur happen when people venture too far out. I was just saying to be careful and make smart choices. That is all.

8. actually, most shark attacks
happen in less than four feet of water, the Bull, Tiger and Sand sharks feed in the shallows.

10. Well on the news this morning, a guy said that in that
area, they typically stay further off shore. This was in the Gulf and not the "actual" ocean.

20. Well, why do you think anybody is pretty. She was just pretty.
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 09:30 AM by Shell Beau
That is what I thought when I saw her picture. People tend to make a judgment on a person's looks when they see them. I didn't know it was a big deal.

23. I don't understand what you mean by that.
People in general tend to make a judgment about a person the first time they see them. I thought "hmmm, what a pretty girl".

18. I know that. But actually shark attacks are fairly rare.
And in that area, it had been over 100 years since a shark attack had occured.

22. Shark attacks are RARE because MOST people use their brains....
when they go into the home of sharks. Her death is a tragedy, but it should not have happened. Rest In Peace O8)

7. I saw (interview) the guy who tried to save her.
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 09:07 AM by kick-ass-bob
Surfer who went out there even though the shark was still around. He distracted it while 2 others who showed up pulled her into the raft.
He had to hit the shark in the nose to not be the next victim.
:wow:

They sometimes mistake surfers and things like that for their food.

25. I don't think that's a mistake
Surfers, etc. are food for sharks.

Reminds me of the Fishing With John episode:
"For the shark, man is on the menu."
