can you fight city haLL?
i just got an unwarrented parking ticket - you have to move your vehicLe every hour, or you get a ticket... so after parking for the first hour at one end of the street, i moved it to the other end of the street (pretty fucking far away from my originaL spot).... i went out to move it at the start of the third hour and found the ticket - the ticket cLaims i've been at that spot for over 1 hour.

fuckers! about the onLy way you can fight a ticket, is by missing a day of work to go in in person to fight it.

argh! fuck!

that's pretty fucking deLiberate to mark on the ticket that i was parked in that spot at 8:14am and 9:21am, and i'm unbeLievabLy pissed at these fucking vuLtures.

2. it helps to know someone in city government
but that doesn't even really work anymore (transparency, plus everybody wants to be a fucking boy scout nowadays).

i guess you're just screwed, go ahead and pay for the ticket.

what does the ticket say?
and how can you prove that it isn't true?

if you have some kind of transponder on the vehicle, i'm sure there is a report you can run of the vehicle's physical location at any time, but if a cop or meter maid willfully made your parking illegal when it wasn't there really isn't much you can do.

back before everything was so computerized, this was the kind of thing an alderman or cop friend could take care of for you.

and how much is the ticket? $50?

it's unfortunate if you were in the right, but ticket revenues really do help out a city's bottom line. all that mismanagement has to be offset somewhere.

and how much $ would you lose going downtown to fight this sucker?

5. you'll lose anyway without a digital photo / timer
You can pay the ticket but with a diatribe.

Also, find the meter nazi and tell her/him that they wrote you a false ticket and you will be photographing your car and noting the time since they are clearly on the take. Put up a sign asking for other people to contact you who have had tickets with false times on them.

Take a picture of the meter nazi to make your point and post it on DU for us to laugh at.

6. I fought, and won...by claiming ignorance of the rules, which was true.
But perhaps it could work for you. I wrote a nice letter saying I did not know the rules and that I would never do it again. Good luck. :hi:

13. Unfortunately, the Parking Nazis aren't that nice in Boston
it's a huge source of the city's revenues.

8. You might not want to hear this, but have you checked to make
sure you don't have to change STREETS every hour. Where I work, the parking time limit is every two hours, but you have to completely change blocks, not just parking places. You can't even move from one side of the street to the other.

10. I know why Boston meter maids are often yelled at and worse
there seems to be a race to see who can give out the most parking tickets, whether they're warranted or not.

18. They get a commission for the tickets they write.
I know that's the case in DC. I'm fairly certain it is in Boston too.

19. This is what happens
when politicians cut taxes at every level to try and bleed government dry. The enforcement of things like this is only going to get worse. Out here in the sticks it's not much better. These cities have got to make up some of the revenue shortfall somehow.
