Yikes! Christmas already???
Thanksgiving hasn't even happened yet. So now the newspapers and advertisements (sometimes it's hard to differentiate between the two these days) have gotten me started thinking about what I'm gonna do this winter break. I'll be staying with my mom, but don't want to be in the house all day. I'd like to spend some time volunteering for Food Not Bombs or some other progressive organization, but I need something that pays money. Anyone else feeling the beginnings of holiday stress--already?

1. I walked into Marshall Fields today after work................
And the Christmas decorations are up on the main floor.

I don't mind though. I like Christmas. Kinda.

4. I wish they would slow down
Waiting until after thanksgiving was the old tradition, and that seems really appropriate to me. One holiday at a time please!

My grandmother told me they used to really look forward to going to the stores the day after thanksgiving. They would take the train into NY city for a day of shopping and eating out. Putting up christmas stuff in october ruins the specialness.

6. The first day after Thanksgiving
The thirty days of Christmas begins! I am so glad i don't watch TV this time of the year. It's bad enough seeing that shit everywhere you go. At the local Meijers I saw a giant red, white and green candy cane a month ago, and sure enough it turned out to be a Christmas decoration.
