See the movie "March of the Penguins" if you can! Splendid!
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 08:56 PM by Radio_Lady
We just returned from seeing it at a local theater. I don't know how wide this film is being distributed, but it's totally amazing.

The film crew followed a group of penguins through almost a whole Antarctic winter -- while they choose mates, hatch a single egg, and both parents keep it warm until the hatchling appears. All of this in sub-freezing weather from about March to August in Antartica (remember, their seasons are reversed)!

What an amazing feat of nature -- of photography -- and documentary filmmaking. Narrated by Morgan Freeman. "G" rated (the mating sequences were very tastefully done).

We saw it last week - I don't want to spoil the "plot" but suffice it to say emperor penguins do a lot of walking! :)

7. What, no waka-jawaka music during the mating scenes?
I think I'll wait for the R version.;)

8. I would love to see it. The only theater near me where it's showing
is still 40 minutes or so away, and getting there is a bit of a pain in the rump.

I'll either make the drive, or wait until it comes out on DVD, I haven't decided yet.

9. Ladyhawk is the documentary QUEEN.
I'll definitely see it if it makes it to this small town. You should see my Netflix queue...nothing but documentaries on it. I receive "The Life of Mammals" and "500 Nations" next. :)

10. If so, have you seen "Troublesome Creek" about an
Iowa family's desperate efforts to hold onto its 4th generation farm in the early 1990s? One of the daughters produced it, deeply personal, poignent, and lyrical. Gorgeous footage and reminiscent of David Lynch's "The Straight Story." One of my favorites.
