Some have said the film captures the sense of cold war paranoia, when Americans were building fall-out bunkers in their backyards and suspected their neighbors not of being pod-people, but of being Godless, mindless, robotic Communists set to undermine American society. I wonder if there's a recent film in a fictional narrative form that captures the current malaise in America (or that will be looked back upon as capturing it), where (in my case) there's a reluctance to openly speak your mind for fear of being called unpatriotic and a feeling that freedoms are slowly slipping away.
