While I was walking the mutts this morning I was sweating like a maniac! I'm glad I decided to do it early instead of in the afternoon when I usually go.

you can hold off a few hours and be ok.

Actually I'm not much of a germ freak anymore. I used to be though. Not too bad now.

So what did you do last night anything? I just have been hanging out online and stuff. Went and grabbed a few beers in honor of Charles Bukowski and enigmatic, haha. enigmatic was drinking a beer watching a documentary on Bukowski, so I decided to have one too. I still have a few drinks left of it too. Big ol' bottle of Guinness. :)

George Stephanopoulos gave him a beating. Pretty brutal.
It's really nice that Santorum is working his best to send women's rights back to the Stone Age. Don't worry, Mutley, pretty soon you may be relieved of that awful burden of voting and getting to be anything you want to be. I know those dark days will be over soon now that Rick Santorum is looking out for you.

I think I read something on another thread where you mentioned you were not approachable because you were unavailable. Or something like that. You never mentioned anything about a bf or anything before, so I was just curious.

Yeah, Rick is all class. Did you know that women were able to vote in Turkey before they could in the United States? I just learned that in the Feminist Forum a few weeks ago. I pretty much got out of there though. It was getting brutal. All I can say is never piss off a group of women, a guy will definitely lose. Hands down. Lol.

He doesn't like me to bring him up on DU very much. He's paranoid :tinfoilhat: He's cool, even though he can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

And I did not know that about Turkey. Thats actually pretty bad considering that we are the "land of the free" and all. :eyes:

Why's he paranoid? Does he think us crazy liberals might stalk him or something? That's cool though, how long have you been together? I hope you're happy and all. Damn, that tinfoil hat cracks me up. I keep thinking of Signs when Joaquin Phoenix is sitting around wearing one with those two kids, haha.

I was surprised at how backward some people in our country are. Like too many people for my taste think just like Santorum. I know that conservative groups actually pay women to stay at home and not work. That blew me away when I heard that. Just bribing women into slowly giving up all their rights and free will. Did you hear that one? I just did a few weeks ago.

I think you and I should keep this thread going as long as possible. Never let it die. We'll have like 2 thousand posts or something on it.

Nah, he's not worried about the liberals, he's worried about the Freeper trolls. He actually has a DU name but he hasn't used it yet. 'Fraidy cat. He falls into the Democrat category, but he's more apolitical than anything. I'm bringing him around, though.

we've been together 7 years. Don't ask how it lasted that long. We almost broke up about a million times, but never actually did it. He knows he's lucky, I'm the only one who can put up with his crap.

No I did not know that some women get paid to stay home. I like the idea of being financially set, but no amount of money would convince me to give up the rights that so many women before me fought for. That actually pisses me off that any woman in this country would do that.

I would love to keep this thread going for as long as the mods let us. And anyone is free to hijack a part of it for themselves as far as I'm concerned.

56. that's a long time
so now that I know you're taken I can narrow my list of potential victim.... uh, dates down a little. :)

No, the thing about women getting paid off to stay home is daunting. Because, I believe they are women who in many ways are totally cowed by husbands who want to "put them in their place" in the first place. It is not indicative, in my opinion, of the direction most women want to take. Now, I'm all for a woman choosing to stay at home, what stay at home moms do is invaluable, but, I don't believe in women being made to think they only have a few choices in life. I have an Aunt who spent most of her life thinking that she could only be a secretary and nothing else really, other than a mother or maybe a schoolteacher. Well, later in life she shed those chains went to college and ended up getting her Masters degree at 54 years old. Right now, she's in Ithaca, NY doing research at a college there. She's traveled around the country doing research etc. She used to be a woman who lived her role in a man's world in a small corner of the country on an impoverished Indian reservation. Now she's a well traveled, well respected scholar who gets to do all kinds of interesting things and is totally self-reliant.

So yeah, I have big issues with these guys trying to erode women's rights. I should say I have a big problem with it. Not just issues with it. My problem is I'd probably lose my cool if I heard somebody say all this BS in front of me, lol. Lots of 4 letter words would be flying. :)

60. Well, you and bi-baby seem to have
some chemistry. I don't know if she's hooked up with anyone... :winkwinkwink:

Don't think you can't still flirt with me, though. I'm all for some harmless fun flirtation with friends (hey, that was some good alliteration there, and I didn't even do it on purpose!).

I know most women wouldn't go for that, but the fact that ANY have just kills me. Just to think of what all those women sacrificed back in the 20s and on, just for women of today to throw it all away for money is mindblowing! If a woman chooses to stay at home with her kids because she feels it's the right thing to do is fine, but to cow down to a husband is just wrong.

And I'd be right behind you with the four letter words.

66. yeah bi-baby is something else
as is fresianrider, I like JimmyJazz a lot too. Lots of good women around. No doubt.

I like flirting and joking around. I do that with many of my best friends, too. It's sort of my way of showing people I like them, to tease and so forth. It does take a little bit to know me, before I get comfortable enough to be really outgoing. I may just say something sort of funny here and there before that. But, to know me when I actually open up I think is probably pretty interesting. I can be pretty loyal and compassionate and a humorous. But, yeah, I'll definitely continue to flirt with you. Wild horses couldn't stop they, Mutley. :) (plus, I need to be on your good side in case I need somebody to reach the top shelf for me)

Where I'm from most men work and a lot of the women stay home. I guess it goes both ways, but I do know a lot of women who stay home and raise a family. Have food on the table at exactly the husband's designated time. I was always curious at that. I have mainly been attracted to very strong opinionated women. I don't think I would want one who didn't have interests and ambition outside of a family. I don't know that's my take. So did you read the recent threads about the woman I want? I call them my biggest regret threads? If not I'll search them out for you.

Last I read she emailed you back and you guys were going to have lunch. Has that happened yet? If not, make sure you let us know how it goes.

And I may also need you to reach something on the bottom shelf for me. Bending down that far can be tough on the back, you know?

I think it would be fun to stay with my kids until they started school if the daddy was making enough money. Then I could be with my kids while they're really yooung, maybe work on my books, then go get a real job when the kiddies start school. But if some man tried to tell me I HAD to stay with them he could just kiss my ass. He would end up being the stay at home dad if I had anything to do with it. ;)

72. oh I wish we have progressed that much
No she just emailed me back and let me know she was still around. She seemed really taken aback. This girl is brilliant. A great writer and she was having trouble spelling words right in her e-mail. Plus her writing voice was flustered kind of. I laid some stuff out on her. She said she had to organize her thoughts and everything. The only time I've known her to be taken aback like that was when I wrote a bunch of sweet comments on one of her essays and she came up to me after class and was flirting like crazy with me. So I think - maybe it's just hope - that I really resonated something with her. I am not kidding though. That woman blindsided me. Her intellect and talent. How she'd always smile when I'd say hi to her. She had me wrapped up right away. I really love opinionated women and she's a totally strong little feminist. (she's about an inch shorter than me too) She's a pretty nice looking woman, not bad, but that doesn't even matter you know? With all that she has otherwise, I was just knocked for a loop.

Yeah, yeah yeah, laugh it up, but when you drop something on the ground and it's too far down for you to pick up, don't go calling for me to help you out. :)

I'd wouldn't mind being a stay at home dad. I love kids. I would just write all the time and work on my creative projects etc. I like to cook and clean and shop etc. I have at various times taken care of my brothers for a while. A few years ago when I finished my college degree in Seattle, I went home to Montana for three months and my dad had to go out of state to work on a job for a few months. So my parents weren't around, they just left my high school age brother with me and I have another brother who is a year younger than me but very irresponsible, so I basically ran the show for a few months. It was hard work though. Cleaning the house, cooking, getting everybody up for school and work etc. I'd drive in and buy groceries, work out and then cook and clean most of the day. I enjoyed it though. I wouldn't mind doing that sometime in my life. I have no ego about that sort of thing. I'm pretty secure in my manhood and all.

heehee!

You sound like one smitten kitten. How cuuuuteeee! I hope you guys get to go out, and maybe even get a little something going. But you must keep us posted because, well, because I'm nosy. Ha! And looks do matter to a certian extent. I like that you're not shallow, but no one wants to be with someone who makes them ill physically. It is nice, however, to know that some men exist who think about something besides just T&A you know?

And when you need something from the top shelf don't come crying to me, either.

Oooo, thunder. I like that. BOOOOM!

Anyway. My neice lived with me for a couple months while my sister was having some issues. It is hard to raise kids (not that having a neice live with me for two months is raising kids, but it was enough of a taste of it for me to see what it's really like). But I would have fun being a stay at home mom. At first. Not for their whole lives, I think I would just go stir crazy. But until they start school would be fine.

Oh, I am pretty damn smitten, that's for sure. I do make myself sound a little too good, though. I should mention, I was seriously attracted to her in the first place. All that other stuff put her over the top, but she is a sexy little thing. In my opinion anyway. So it's not like she's got a hunchback or anything and I love her for her beautiful soul, haha. I'm attracted to her, but the whole package is what really does it for me. I definitely would like to go out with her, but I'm pretty much looking for closure, that's the main thing. It hurt me terribly to lose her friendship and have her walk out of my life. My heart so ached for her. Now, I'm just hoping to make peace with my regret. If more happens though, I'll be down with that for sure. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking for that. At least a little bit.

All of my relatives are basketball players. I have a cousin who is nearly 6'8. You should me hang out with him, haha.

One of my younger brothers played college basketball and he's maybe 5'7 or so. Played at a few community colleges, then probably could have played a few other places, but he just decided to go into coaching.

122. it's almost a must to be an athlete in my family
Virtually all of us have played sports, uncles, cousins everyone.

I was born premature. Always have been small, not particularly fast or anything like that. I could read and write at an advanced level even when I was young, so I would play sports sometimes, but a lot of the time I'd be inside reading etc. In my family, especially my dad's side, all of my dad's brothers and sisters had a big competition about whose kids were better etc. A simple footrace between my cousins and I was a big deal. It was a big deal to see who could throw a rock the farthest even. Another of my brothers, about a year younger than me, and a cousin of his same age would always battle it out in things like that. This cousin lived with my grandparents and their competition was the source of much resentment in the family back and forth on all sides. The big thing in all of this though is I have always been physically strong and I am terribly competitive. I hate to lose more than anything. So when we were all older, I ended up being the most decorated athlete of my generation. Most of those others all faded out a little. Couldn't handle the pressure like that. I thrived on it. It's not just that either. I'm competitive about everything. I've won awards at everything I've done, whether it was sports, film and video work or writing etc. It's odd, I am competitive like that. About checkers, everything, lol.

Softball is fun. Doesn't matter if you're all that good unless you're planning on playing in college or something like that. By and large, you should do all that stuff for fun. Sports, especially if you are a serious athlete, can be really hard on a person. Physically and mentally. It's best to just enjoy it. The worst is for a parent to push their kids at a young age too. They lose sight of the fun of everything.

123. My stepmother was a girl jock in high school
played volleyball, softball, fieldhockey, was a cheerleader. She wanted so badly for me to be the same way, but it just wasn't happening. I tried out for a couple teams and got cut every time. Then I joined the geek clubs (chorus, drama, writing) and knew that I had found my true calling in the arts.

124. I love the arts
I was the rare jock who was in choir, did drama and writing etc. I rewrote "Romeo and Juliet" as a sophomore in high school, made it into a modern tale and our English class did it for a play in a few public performances. I love that stuff.

Arts are interesting because you can combine anything in them. I used to be interested in all kinds of things. I never knew what I fully wanted to do. Criminology was always fascinating to me, etc. Film. Being an athlete. So on and on. After a while I figured out that I could just learn about all of this stuff, sit down and write about it. You can immerse yourself in developing a character, plotline and so forth. It's far and away the most interesting thing I have ever done. I love research so much that I don't get around to writing hardly at all, haha.

I'd like to check out some of your stuff whenever you get a chance.

126. Being a slacker is almost synonymous with being creative
I'm the same way. It's called brinksmanship. You wait until the last minute to do something then revel in the stress of being busy. Others really think you're doing something, but you know you barely have it together, lol. Here is a posting of a short story I made in the Writing forum. It's been published before, but I kept all the rights. I'm using it in my book, which if I had the balls I would have written by now. Maybe I'll have it done in the next few years, I hope. I'm looking to rework it a little.

132. glad you liked it
I got quite an underground following from that story. :) Every once in a while a fan pops up. The book did ok for something that was from a small publisher etc.

I worked up a few things with him. He's very cynical and bitter in that story. I don't have anything finished, more like I'm still figuring out where to take him. Sort of like I am still figuring out where to take myself in my own life, haha.

I wrote that four years ago. I'm a million times better now, but a million times more insecure too. Back then, I just let that story fly and didn't give a damn whether it was good or meant anything significant or had beautiful prose etc. I need to be more diligent though. I really should have a book done by now, or at least close.

The only real writing I've managed to do in the last several years is school related. I've started a bunch of my own personal projects and haven't finished them. But you're very talented. As the other poster on that thread said, I think that story has potential to be a full novel.

139. It could make a solid first chaper
I prefer to keep it as a short story. I'd rather say, watch him progress -or digress- in a disjointed fashion. From a few interrelated short stories, you know?

I always start stuff and not finish them. Then I take two of those unfinished things and morph them together, etc. Make a story out of that. Much of my stuff is school related too. Just depends. I write a lot of political stuff on my blog. A little poetry. Do you write poetry at all? I can, but prose is my forte'. It's what I'm best at.

What do you like to write about? Any particular genre etc?

140. Check your pm and your email.
Yeah, I know what you mean about wanting to keep him in short story form. He's a wonderful character, and even though you didn't give him much description he still comes alive.

Well, I write a lot of boring essays and research papers for school. I do write a little poetry, but it's not good. My true love is fiction. I'm still playing with genres, seeing what I'm really good at, and what I really like. But, as my dad keeps reminding me, I don't need to be a one genre writer. I've played around with Science Fiction, Romance (don't laugh!), Political fiction (my dad and I keep talking about writing a novel about life after Peak Oil together... I wonder if we'll ever do it), and Drama type stuff.

I'm still very insecure about my writing, so feel special that I've shared some of it with you. lol.

then I will tear you down because that's what evil short people do. (haven't you ever watched Leprechaun?) No, seriously, send all you want, I'll give you lots of advice and critique stuff, etc. I love doing that stuff.

I write about romantic stuff alot. Not really romantic novel type stuff, but love is important to me, so I have written about it a lot. One of my published stories is a little sweet love story. Politics is a big thing for me too.

I would say write about anything and everything. Don't limit yourself at all. Try a little bit of anything that you're interested in.

147. I just write what's in my head.
I've had stories floating around in there since long before I discovered I could write. The hard part is getting them onto paper in some sort of coherent form.

I'm actually going to take the chance on my break between semesters this month to write something. And I have nothing better to do so I have no excuse to not finish it! And when I'm done, I will most certianly send it to you.

150. I received it fine this time
I liked it. It seems that you started off a little slow, but you warmed up and got in your groove once the essay progressed. That is something if you were to do anything with you would edit it quite a bit more and organize some of the randomness a little, but it was well done, very interesting.

One thing when it comes to talking about yourself, usually nobody wants to hear, you know? I mean who wants to read somebody yammer on about their life? haha. The trick is to make it compelling, and to allow the reader to identify with it. We all grow up at some point. So how do you relate that to the reader? I think you did a good job at that. I was reading it, thinking about how similar you and I are.

Actually, I was thinking about how similar you are to a female character I'm messing around with right now. I wrote about 7 pages of a story trying to figure her out. She's a lot like you, smoking, up early in the morning, can't sleep, wondering about if she's an old soul or not. Which is to say that's often how I feel too.

I think you were at your best when you were writing about your own introspection. Your descriptions were nice, I was beginning to feel they were a little tedious, because what I really wanted to hear was more from your viewpoint, not necessarily about knick knacks etc. But, those parts did serve a purpose, I was just much more interested in your viewpoint, which I as a reader selfishly identified with.

From the point where you talk about sitting on your futon, smoking and thinking, I think you were really feeling it. The stuff about missing a quieter life, wondering about growing old, that was a wonderful tie in to the whole essay, and definitely a theme you could raise in other writings or strengthen in this. The ending with your dad's quote was perfect.

Like so many women that I read, I notice you correlate back and forth between strength and vulnerability. You are intelligent, young and independent, about to get a degree and everything, yet your vulnerability is you are wondering about your age and life. Are you getting old before your time? Do you have a fear of a "boring" existence? If you do, then why do you miss and want to embrace a quieter life? All pertinent questions for you. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know, I suspect, as your father said, it is a good thing. I'd like to see your thoughts more on all of that. What do you mean by "old" too? Lots of things going on hear. I'd like to see more of it, watch you contrast different themes, like good and bad, strength and vulnerability. It would be nice to see you to continue to reflect on these themes and to introspect on the dichotomy of the conflicting concepts in there.

But, I liked it a lot. Lots of stuff going on in there to think about.

153. My teacher said the same thing
about less description and more introspection. I actually cut the description a lot from the first draft, and I know I should cut it more. I do want to give the reader an idea of the "typical Baltimore rowhome" since that is a part of what makes me feel cramped in the city.

I have more of a fear of a meaningless existence than a boring existence. I don't want to die and fade into nothing as so many people do. I look at my friends who are my age and they're still so interested in partying and going out whenever they get a chance, and I just feel I've outgrown that a bit. Not that I don't like to have fun, but my main goal in life is so much more than "when will I be able to go out and get drunk". I feel older than my age, I guess.

12. I see.
I'm just so proud of my babies, and want to show them off. I think I'll end up being one of those obnoxious mothers who insists on showing everyone pictures of my kids all the time.

Not exactly like her, but a little. When I saw one of your other pics from a bit of a distance, last week or something, I had to do a double take because you looked a lot like her from that distance. Which trust me, it's a compliment she's a looker.

You're attractive. No doubt about that. I find most women attractive, you all, by and large, have a certain beauty about yourselves. I know you don't see yourself as a beauty, I never met a woman who has ever admitted that out loud, lol. But you are a good looking woman though. For sure.

Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 10:40 AM by mutley_r_us

I just like this picture and wanted to spread it around some more. Don't mind the bushy eyebrows... I don't "do" waxing, or plucking, or any of that crazy painful stuff.

149. As you know all of our voices added together for a common cause counts
far more than one voice. So it isn't a "little" thing that you've just done to help ... it's what we all need to do.

I've known people who needed help and they thought there was no where to turn. Now ... and for sometime ... there is some place to go, some place to be safe.

most people don't know this but - the very first child ever removed from its home was saved by the ASPA ... child protective services didn't exist ... the ASPA came first
