3. Well, definitely not.
My dad's pretty much lost his job, we've downsized, our health insurance premiums have gone up and gas prices are through the roof.

How bout you?

12. Well.
I'm a thirteen-year-old pinko liberal in the eighth grade living in Lake Mary, Florida. I'm very concerned for the future.

19. Hah.
No worries. This isn't FR, you don't have to censor yourself, and there's nothing I haven't heard already.

I mean, on FR, in worries that a young kid may be on, the word 'damn' is censored by users. For God's sake.

18. Yeah, I remember you were talking about him in a thread.
We are the next generation, and we've got so much hidden power it's unbelievable. With that being said, even though we're probably 2-1 Democrats or Anti-Bush, there's a good amount of young Bushies too.

14. Who is your political hero?
Always good to see youngsters getting to know politics b.t.w. - I've followed it avidly since the British election of 1992 (when I was 12). :hi:

20. America-wise: FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Lincoln, Alexander Hamilton,
Thomas Jefferson's a big one, and worldwide I'd say Gandhi, John Locke.

If I think of more I'll add them.

23. A very good list.
It might be a dash unkind to raise Hamilton's quote of "a republic - if you can keep it" at this precise moment.

On a more serious note - have you read any of John Locke? Ironically 18th century political philosophy is far easier to read than 20th (o figure). It might still be a tad much at the moment, but I'm a great believer in going to the texts of the greats themselves (I read Aristotle when I was 16 - I've been hocked ever since).

I can't say that I agree with everything he says - but there's no doubt at all that his Second Treatise of Government is one of the most influential texts ever (certainly in the American political model - the first time I read the U.S. Constitution, especially the openning, I though of Locke immediately).

I'm going to have to dig out some of my old university essays on Locke now and reread them.

25. I've really never read any of them.
I intend to pick up on the Federalist Papers and maybe some Locke and de Montesquieu as well, too. I've not really read as much as I should in regards to 19th/20th century politics.

Actually, my old choir teacher started playing the beat to The Mighty Quinn every time I walked into choir. Quite hilarous.
