It's totally chosing to play more from these artists, as well as Nurse With Wound, Jesus Jones, Nirvana and Jesus Lizard.

Like, way more than one would suspect from a randomly generated playlist.

What's going on?

2. How do people live with shuffles?!
Seriously, I don't get it. I'd need like 500 of those to get even a fraction of my music collection portable...and I'm not talking about solely ill-gotten gains, either.

I'm finally taking the iPod plunge, thanks to my SO (it's a belated birthday gift). It's the 20 gig one and I'm mulling over how to whittle my collection down to the "must listen to" stuff.

4. Get a Rio
It plays OGG. Smaller format better sound..... that is if you really want to squeeze things in.

5. I've heard good thing about Rios
But being broke right now, I'm just happy having a player at all. Can't wait for it to come in the mail. I'm so glad I don't have to lug around a zillion CDs anymore.

9. I had a Rio forst, but returned it and got an iPod.
I didn't like the way Rio's software organised tracks. Once you've used the iPod software (iTunes), you won't go back to whatever you're using presently on your PC (WinAmp, or whatever).

My first iPod was stolen, and they no longer make a 40G model, so I bought this one used on eBay. It's exactly the same as my first one.

11. Oh, I'm an iTunes fiend
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 01:19 AM by Chovexani
Hell I still run 1.0 on my iMac. Great program.

Unfortunately, I'm in a bit of a bind. BF forgot both my computers are several years old and a couple of OSes behind (iMac is running OS9, PC is running 98SE). Newer iPods require OSX for Mac and XP on PC, at least for iTunes.

So now I'm gonna have one, without any idea how to put stuff on it. I need to find an alternative program, as finances are running tight lately and I just can't afford to beef up either machine to the point where they can run the newer OSes.

6. Mine is a 40G, I meant the random shuffle setting.
Mine is a 3rd generation 40G model; it holds all my cds, plus many of the LPs and singles I burned into AAC last year.

"9665 songs, 28.4 days, 37.7 Gigs". It's full; I guess the other 2G and change is for internal iPod software, etc, because it won't accept any more music files.

12. My 1gig holds about 200 songs.
I don't need more than that at one time. I like to rollerskate and I have been waiting for the shuffle my whole life. I love it. It fits anywhere. And I have the tape adapter to listen to it in my car.

When I am skating, I want to listen to music, not look for it.

But we all have different needs.

14. Hmm, I never thought about it like that
I'm such a music freak that I need to have a whole mess of stuff on hand, on the off chance I might want to listen to it. I get freaked out that I will want to listen to something and not have it.

Yeah, I'm weird.

16. You have to understand that computers don't really do random
They use various formulas to simulate random... but its not truly random. And depending on how complex the formula (or how variable the seed is) applied to your data set you can quite often find yourself in cycles. A way to bust out of this type of thing is to start the system playing from a different song than you normally hear. This seeds the system with a different start point.
