For those who've used more than one: what is the BEST cellular service?
I think Cingular sucks - but I've never used any other.

10. Ummm...they have the largest service area in the country!
The only other one I could come close to recommending in Verizon. But they don't have the "rollover" minutes, so you'll lose what you don't use.

11. maybe I'm saying it wrong . . .
Way too many dead zones, dropped calls, weak signals. I guess that's not "service areas" but hell, I don't know shit. What am I trying to say?

3. No, no, no...
Nextel has the WORST coverage area of ALL the major cellular carriers. Stay away from Nextel.

8. i think it depends on where you live...
i live in indianapolis and i have good coverage pretty much everywhere except my apartment and out in the middle of no where with T-Mobile...i find their packages are the best priced as well and their service, in my experience has been phenomenal for the past 5 years

26. I like T-Mobile's prices, but
their phones always seem sub-part to everyone else's. All my friends who use Verizon and Cingular have cooler phones than I do.

9. I switched from Sprint to Verizon
and I am so much happier. I get reception everywhere now; no roaming.

A lot of it depends on what kind of phone you get. Make sure you buy something quality -- it doesn't need to be fancy, but a good brand, like Motorola, is essential.

24. Nokia is a better buy.
My little $50 Nokia ($50 w/activation) puts ot shame my friend's $150 (w/ activation) Motorola, though the Motorola wins in terms of size and the startrekkie flip-up cover, the Nokia wins hands down in reception and durability.

In the same office, I can make calls from the IT server room. He has to not only exit the IT offices but exit the bloody building in order to make a call.

12. Now that America's Choice SUCKS NO MORE!!!
Verizon! They got wise and expanded the map for many of us who live or travel in the hinterland.. For maximum area coverage they are great.

14. I've only used Verizon
But I've been so happy with it that I've had no reason to try anything else. Hubby has Nextel because he got his phone through work and he hates it - never any coverage anywhere.

15. I have Virgin Mobile.. I think that's Sprint
there are some rare, usually rural, areas where I do get no signal... but it hasn't been a big deal since I live in the city. Otherwise it seems fine.

18. I rarely use my phone, so I use Virgin.
It's $20 for ninety days. I swore I would never get a cell phone (I hate phones) but for less than $7 a month it's good to have if my wife or children are trying to find me. Individual calls are expensive, but that doesn't matter if I don't call.

This week Target was selling two $20 Virgin top up cards for $30. Every once in a while Virgin will also have a special offer like "Top up to $60 and get one year of service."

My wife has a cingular phone and it has better coverage than my Virgin phone, especially in rural areas. She's had that service forever, mostly because her family all use cingular, and they can talk to one another for free.

I don't like sales people, and a lot of the guys in cingular stores are very pushy and will try to sell you something you won't use or don't need, but I'll bet most cell phone stores are like that.

It would be nice to know if any of the cell phone companies have any sort of environmental or social conscience.

Not just for voice, but Net access. Covers 85% of the USA for net and 97% for voice:)

22. How's that net access working for you?
Do you also use the "free" wireless provided by motels, etc.?

I'd like to try it out, but I don't really need it which makes it an expensive toy for me.

19. I love Cingular
I have enough fricking rollover minutes that I'll never have to worry about paying for the expensive time. I have roaming and I even put my parents on my plan.

But there is this one little section of Rt41 just when you cross over from DE into PA that has no coverage. Can't figure it out

My husband has Verizon and is happy with it. (We never seem coordinated enough in our cell phone purchasing to get a family plan.)

21. I've used Sprint and Verizon:
Sprint renewed my contract without telling me and the day I went into cancel (literally one day after they renewed it), they tried to charge me a $150 early cancellation fee.

That was the last in a long line of billing- and line quality- related problems from those bastards.

I've used Verizon ever since. And I will not switch.
