"The Colbert Report" episode 2
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 12:02 AM by Eric J in MN
I just watched the second episode of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."

It was different than the first episode. In the first episode, Stephen Colbert played a right-wing character 100% of the time.

In tonight's episode, Colbert played a right-wing character during the first-and-third segments. But during the middle segment, he did an interview with Leslie Stahl ("60 Minutes"), and he was himself as he asked some of the questions of Leslie Stahl.

Colbert said that Richard Nixon was more liberal than John Kerry, and asked what has happened to the country, such that politics are to the right.

Stahl didn't completely agree with that categorization of Nixon, but said that Ronald Reagan moved the country to the right and we've been there ever since.

Gerrymandering of Congress

Personally, I'd say the gerrymandering after the 1990 census (called "Project Ratfuck" by those who did the gerrymandering) changed the political landscape more than any change in public opinion.

"Project Ratfuck" was named by Republicans who call Democrats "rats." The name reminds me of a scene from a Nazi propaganda movie (probably "Triumph of the Will") in which images of Jews are spliced together with images of rats.

2. I wish he would just be himself, but with exagerrated ego
and machismo.

3. I thought
Colbert's show was excellent. Colbert will not doubt need time to fine tune some segements but I have no doubt colbert will prevail.

4. It was bizarre to see him shed the persona
that he's pretty much had all along durring that interview. I think he has a long way to go to figure out what the show is going to be about and how he's going to handle it.

But I love the man, regardless, and am looking forward to giving him every chance.
