Hubby 6 days from leave , hospitalised with disease.. then a wreck
that damaged his already damaged knees.

He contracted Norwalks-caused by fecal matter in the water and food supply. Yeah,f olks in Iraq, troop and Iraqi alike, are eating and drinking shit-literally.

Once released, his driver found the only trench in the desert to land in...and did. Back to the hospital where they had to wait until the swelling went down to determine the extent of damage. He is still coming home...still swollen and barely able to walk...but I'm thankful. I just hope he makes it out of Iraq alive for his R& R.

2. That makes me so sad.
My heart just breaks to hear things like that. Your last sentence is poignant.

I despise him for getting us into this mess.

Sending hugs your way.

3. Oh Solly Mack,
what hell your husband (and you) are going through. I hope he will be with you for Thanksgiving. All the best to you and to your husband for his quick recovery.

4. If he is barely able to walk, won't he get to stay home?
Will they really make him go back? That's awful.

6. Unless he gets a "profile", they will send him back.
He was told he could get rest and all healed up back home. He told me he was still really stiff and it was still very painful to walk....but no broken bones. He was once in the CAV, so has bad knees from all the stooping. Knees that already creaked and locked up on him...

5. Thank y'all. It's just so disgusting, disheartening and scary
with the everyday worry and now I learn 5 days after the fact that he had been in the hospital for a disease easily avoided with proper sewage and clean water ...only to be almost killed in a wreck that totaled a hmmve...and this so close to his leave date. I wonder if his driver had enough sleep, did he just react too slowly, too quickly...too anything. Gawds, for my husband to end up just another "non-combat" casualty....my anger grows.

Seems the disease is going around throughout the compound as well as in the city itself. In a country with limited medical care & supplies, that spells death for the sick, the old, and the very young.

I get so sick and angry at times I just cry all day long.

Just being able to share with you all helps a lot.

I feel sometimes as if I have no other life right now. Everything is war, war, war. I eat, sleep and drink it. If I feel this way, imagine how everyone in Iraq feels.I'm at my wit's end most days...what are the people of Iraq and the troops feeling?

Did you know there are no real resources for the spouses of returning troops? Recently, our group realised firsthand how limited the support is for the spouses of soldiers returning home from war. They get a one day, one time, class that does nothing for them. Domestics are on the rise among returning troops. I have worried spouses calling me night and day and DU is my one source of relief. ..the one place I can turn to...you guys listen and it helps.

thank you!!!

This is what I'm talking about when I speak of those phony patriots who falsely claim to support our troops. Hearing stories like this makes me want to punch the next person I see with a "I support our troops" sticker/pin on. I saw this a lot as an Army brat. These almost-humans are so eager to send these guys off to war, then do nothing for them, and have the gall to say "I support our troops". It boils my blood like nothing else.

Solly, all you or anyone else in your position has to do is ask. Remember that.

12. Oh , Georgette.. That stinks.. Thank goodness he's coming home
The whole thing is awful..

I just hope that he feels better soon, so that while he's home, he can enjoy himself.. and you can have some carefree fun too:)..

Fingers crossed here in CA:):)

Is there any way that you could start a support group?? That might make you (and the others)feel better.. You might be able to find a place in Junction City that would give you free space to have weekly/monthly meetings.. Lots of restaurants here do that for organizations. I can;t see them turing down a group of spouses of soldiers..

You can even get speakers for free sometimes.. There are people from the menatl health community who would probably love to volunteer some time for a worthy cause like this..

13. Hiya! Yes, on Monday I am going to the ACS
to check on after the return support groups for spouses-if none, a couple of us in our company will start one up.

Use a phonetree for daily/weekly support and meet monthly-even if it's in someone's home.

I was surprised at the lack of support for these spouses. There are restuarants we can meet at as well. I'll be checking into that on Monday.

I've already lined up spouses whose husbands have returned for a few months now to be our opening speakers. Sort of a "in the trenches" firsthand look at what to expect. I'm hoping to take it postwide but will start small at first...see where it goes.

Thank you for the well wishes!! I'm hoping for a carefree visit with him.

10. I'm so worried
for both of you. Saddened that it took so long for you to hear about your hubby's injury. I guess sending water purification drops is a good idea. Sheesh. This is bizarre that we fund Halliburton while our troops don't have the basics of clean water.

So here's a  and all my prayers are with you both. Please post when he comes home so we know you both are safe. :grouphug:

I am so sorry to hear this. I really hope he recovers soon and that he (maybe due to those knees) does NOT have to go back. Just know I am thinking of you and wishing you well.
