All that Christmas Crap in the US? I LOVE it...I mean, LOVE it...it cheers me up. I like wrapping, and cards...the whole damned thing.

Sickening, isn't it?

11. I'm sure there is a psychiatrist or 12 step program
that can help you. But what do I know, the Winter Solstice is the holiday that time of year. The alleged birth of this Christ person has been shown to have been in the Spring by some, but who know?

I just don't trust Christians of the early times not to move the birth date merely to hijack another holiday from the religions they didn't tolerate well if at all.

Go get your own if you don't want a hi-jacked Winter Celebration.

13. Heh heh, by all means enjoy yourself
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 05:11 PM by Ferret Mike
Last year was my first holiday season in the Portland, Oregon area working at a larger Saturday Market then I did in Eugene, Oregon.

The Christmas music alone nearly made me turn inside out it drove me so nuts. I also spent several seasons working the phone banks at Harry and David.

And I always wondered how many nice conservative and older folks thought the particular tattooed and pierced anarchist or kid in black in Eugene they gave their fruit of the month club or Grand Tower of Treats orders to was such a nice young man or woman down there in the Emerald Empire.

I am glad you are enjoying yourself and I merely make mild joshing about your thread if only because the too early onset of the holiday season is so well lamented, you alluded to it with your comments on not believing what you are doing.

Have great holiday season, and don't let Santa track up your carpet. Boiling oil over a low fire in the fireplace is always a good security measure against those ugly elfin sorts who wear the red and black colors or anarchy who like to do serial break-ins Christmas night. ;-)

15. If they put on the David Sedaris play "Santa Land Diaries" again, go to it
Just a word from a former Portlander.

And Welcome to DU.

19. That's my rule.
No Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving (unless you're a musician and have to practice). And I *love* Christmas music.

No Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving (except at craft fairs).

Getting Christmas shopping done and making lists is fine. I've already gotten my best friend something, and I've got a word document up with ideas for others.

But this is October! It's Halloween time!

21. I already have my own preliminary list done
I give it to relatives Nov. 1 whether they like it or not. I have to make a list because they won't remember the CD titles.

The christmas.com forums are for you and me. :-)
