Fog around the lake (dial-up heavy)
Last Sunday I was up early to help a friend set up his house after a move.

We'd moved him, wife, kids and dogs the day before, from a flat into a brand new house. But as it turned out, he was at the old place this Sunday morning, delivering the keys to the new owner.
So I was stuck with myself for some hours, and decided to take a walk aroud a lake just at the outskirts of Oslo. The weather was foggy and dense, creating an eerie and silent athmosphere as I trudged along.

The old tree

I've taken several pictures of this half dead tree, at all seasons. It is a portal to Sognsvann, a small lake just outside central Oslo. Sognsvann is a popular recreational area, and the University for Top Athletes is just a stone throw away, so it is often crowded with well trained people, jogging, skiing and swimming. And ordinary people just out for a walk.

As you can see, both young and old are out early - I started about nine in the morning. Note the island in the background.

Mystery Island

It looks like the result of a flood, but this is really the natural state for this little island. Although the isolation is of course a result of a much longer battle for space between the water and the ground.
As you can see it has a variety of trees, all crowded together on the little grassy field. They seem to be longing for a better life among their sisters and brethren ashore ;-)
How eerie and desolate it looks in the fog.

The wall of white

The fog is very local, and some clear pockets vibrates with contrast.
On the path, the Norwegians and Norwegianettes are proceeding as usual on a Sunday; taking a hike.

"Welcome, water!"

This tree seems to lean longingly out to the water and fog. "Take me with you!"

A couple on the pier

Maybe they cuddled a bit before I sneaked this snapshot. I'm not tellin'! :D

"I'm not dead, I'm just re-inventing myself"

It shows how misfortune may make life seem uncertain. Who cares? Just grow another branch.

Morning coffee, standing

Half way around, this elderly couple was having their morning coffe, standing, out in the fog. I checked later as I approached them, they had bread and cheese to go with it ;-)

The other side

This is app. 180 degrees from the first pictures. To the right there's the University and also a stable with horses.

The empty pier

In hot summer days, this place is teeming with people bathing and tanning. Today it's a gateway into the fog, empty and deserted.

Mystery Island revisited

The strange habitat on the island reapperars out of the fog. Can you hear the call:

"We're all set and ready to march ashore, sir!"

"Just give the signal, capt'n"

The lone gull on a pole

As he took off, screaming the lonely call of approaching winter, I proceeded to my car and went to discover muscles I didn't know I had...

Have you thought about visiting our Photo Group? We're going to have a "fall" contest in a couple of weeks. Any one of these would work wonderfully.

It was surprising to see so many people about in the fog so early. They did it to feel the atmosphere, I guess :-)

Lol, the trees seems so cramped out there :D

Not like this lonely tree on another little Mystery Island, taken just after dawn at a lake called Vansjo to the south of Oslo.

I like islands ;-)

Especially that mystery island, it's almost like a lito or something. Very strange colors.

27. I can feel the sense of solitude like an aura around the trees.
I want to walk among them and lose myself in the fog, hide away from everything, if only for a little while.

Beautiful photos, very nicely done indeed.

28. My maternal grandparents were from Norway...
My grandmother (Engebretsen) was from Kristiania, and my grandfather (Sæterstad) was from Mosjoen.

In their honor I say "Uffda!" ... (brrr) that sure does look cold!
I'm afraid I'm addicted to sunshine and warm weather.

Lovely, extraordinary photos, cousin!!
