My grandma was brought into the hospital today.
She was having chest pains. When she got to the hospital, the doctors made her wait 15 minutes in the waiting room before seeing her! :grr: And she has good medical insurance. Imagine how long it would've taken if she was poor.

Anyways, the doctors didn't find anything that was causing her chest pains. They just told her to take some aspirin and keep taking her prescription meds for her heart until Friday, when they give her a chemical stress test. :scared: They didn't even connect her to an EKG or anything like that when she went in. :grr: It's a horseshit hospital.

Anyways, grandma is fine, for now. For those of you who have been following my life, this is probably one of the shittiest weeks in my life.

I'm thinking I should just go crawl under a rock and stay there until next year. :(

2. I'm sorry Fox....but glad that your grandma seems to be okay.
I'm surprised that they made her wait like that. I ended up in the ER twice in the past because of chest pains, and the minute I told them what was going on, I moved to the head of the line (the question of insurance was not even asked until things calmed down). (Turns out I was having anxiety attacks, but the symptoms are often similar to those of heart attacks).

I can certainly understand your frustration -- I'd be pissed to if a loved one was not seen right away for chest pains.

Instead of crawling under a rock. you can always come in here for :grouphug: . (Though sometimes under the rock seems the best place to be.)

5. My grandma's chest pains aren't linked to anxiety...
at least the doctors don't think so.

The people working at the hospital knew she was having chest pains, but made her wait anyways. What a horrible thing to do. :(

I'm thinking about taking the rest of the week off class and get some much-needed rest. I'm mentally burnt out and I think I deserve a break.

Thanks for being there, SeattleGirl.

6. Grandma is going to switch hospitals ASAP.
I'm glad she is. This hospital was horrible and treated her like crap.

15. You have to remember, too
that women having chest pains are, in a lot of places, STILL being treated differently than men with the same symptoms. Chest pains in women are most often put down to anxiety or hysteria before ever even laying a stethoscope on the patient to listen to what's going on.

Next time, don't take her, call your local EMS. They will get treatment started and she will definitely be at the head of the line when she gets to the ER.

10. I used to help out in the ER......
And I can tell you, this hospital where your grandma went is CRAP!

NO reputable hospital keeps a patient who might be having a heart attack waiting at ALL......

Definitely take her to a different one next time.....

And BTW, insurance has NOTHING to do with it.....

And NO EKG? That just plain sucks........very incompetent, IMHO...

Please take care, my dear Fox Mulder......

12. I forget where you are...
But in California, the insurance (or the lack of it) is NOT supposed to make any difference......

You know you can always come here and let everything out. And crwling under a rock ... the rock is way too hard, we are softer ... come crawl in our arms :grouphug:

16. I'm sorry to hear your grandmother got such shoddy treatment
Be sure that you or somebody else accompanies her to her test on Friday so she has an advocate. That hospital obviously needs some looking after.

Big hugs for the both of you, and I hope everything turns out ok.
