Really need a good rain-producing ritual.
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 10:18 AM by Maddy McCall
It is very cloudy here. We just got a few drops of rain...and then it stopped.

But while it's really cloudy, for the first time since Katrina, I was hoping that maybe I could provoke the clouds to drop a few inches of water.

I know that drawing a turtle in the dirt and then erasing its head will stop rain.

But I know of nothing to make rain. Anyone want to help? :D

1. We got a little mist this morning
that had to technically count as rain. But it has been 45 days and we really need it. Maybe we can get together and do an Indian Rain Dance!!

I wear something white and don't have an umbrella, it rains. So then I am soaking wet and see through!! :P

My friend and I laugh every time I wear white. We know it will rain, and 99% of the time, it does. I was lucky on my wedding day b/c it didn't rain!!! :)

12. Seriously, I'm going to go try that.
BRB...I'll tell you if it worked.

(I do have ten cardboard boxes on the picnic table, because I'm clearing out old toys that belong to my son--I'm substituting cardboard boxes for balsa wood. Ok?)

5. Good lord.
after Katrina I thought you'd be water logged for 6 months down there. For making rain washing my car, maybe planning a picnic or outdoor gathering works sometimes.

7. Oh no!! We need lots of rain in MS.
And we usally get it. Lots of farming goes on here and we hardly ever go 45 days without rain. That was a lot of rain during Katrina, but nothing too crazy.

14. Actually, we didn't get loads of rain in Katrina.
The rain was windswept, and just not a lot of it, even though we were 30 miles from the eye.

And we've had NO rain since. So imagine all of that dry debris, piled up in yards, with people just itching to burn it and get rid of it.

Our vol fire department has been out at least five times a day since the hurricane, putting out forest and field fires. Only two house fires, though, so that's good.

18. That's right. I remember you talking about a burning ban
the other day. Yes all that debris and can't burn it. It'd be almost like a forest fire waiting to happen. Sounds like you like being a firefighter too. That's cool. There's been a number of vol firefighters in my immediate family. My hat's off to you!

24. I'm an adrenaline junkie.
I don't go in burning houses, but I do everything else. I love driving the trucks, working the hose (get your mind out of the gutter! ;-) ) and just all of it.

I don't like wrecks and I don't like having to stand with a family watching their home burn. I think that's where women come in handy though--I've probably spent more time comforting people than doing anything else, at "big" fires. :(

30. Uh gutter? Who moi?
;-) oh perish the thought.......cough cough

I couldn't stand wrecks either, even if it would be just adults. But then again I've got a sister who deals with that all the time in the funeral biz.

There's a woman around here who is credited with being the first person to give stuffed animals to kids in tragic situations like accidents or fires for comfort. That would be so hard to deal with on a professional level.

8. As I was going to say before I got distracted upthread...
:P

We have had so little rain lately that we are under mandatory water restrictions and they are giving out fines to those who break the rules. This is only the 2nd time I've seen this happen here.

:scared:

15. Jeez!
How long has it been since it has rained there? It has been 45 days here and I haven't heard of any restrictions. We do, however, have a no burn restriction since everything is so dry. We can't burn our piles of leaves (which is how my hubby likes to do it), etc.

17. I think we've had 1 day of rain in the past couple months.
Our lake levels are at the lowest levels since 2002 (the last time we had any restrictions). And it doesn't help that right now is the driest time of the year. Our water supply lake is 7 ft below normal.

16. We are under a no burn ban. If you get caught burning anything...
outside (except a steak on the grill) you can be fined $500 and the cost of response of the fire department and Forestry.

But still, idiots are burning stuff. One guy yesterday was burning creosote timbers. :eyes:

32. time proven method
1st you need to create a humid southernly airflow. Now bring a nice cold front from the northwest. And when they meet, you will get your rain and storms.
