Okay, this woman at work didn't know who Dick Cheney,
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 12:02 PM by Shell Beau
Condaleeza Rice, or Donald Rumsfield were. And she didn't know Bush's first name. This woman is in her 50's. It is people like that that scare me! :scared: She is one person that I hope doesn't vote.

They tape all of them, so she has no clue as to what is going on outside of "Genowa City" (or whatever it is called)

13. She didn't seem at all embarrassed. And the thing is
she had this pic of the Wizard of Oz characters with their heads attached. It was clearly putting them down and making fun. So she thought it was funny, but didn't know what their names were. She sort of knew Condaleeza's name, but she had no idea Dick Cheney was VP, or that Bush's first name is George. :o And I am thinking, why do you think it is funny if you have no clue what it even means!!!!

16. During the Oct. before the 2004 election...
... I had a drug store clerk asked what a "W" with a street-sign no symbol meant. (I had one on my shirt.) She did not know that people call Bush Dubya or that his middle initial was W. The clerk was younger than me, but still an adult.

When I was in college, a middle aged woman at a drug store where I worked could not figure out when the Civil War was. (I was discussing it with another employee) She could not even figure out that it was in the 19th century.

22. A friend of mine
did a survey in his high school, which was a pretty posh private school. He asked three questions:

1. When was the Civil War?

2. When was the Vietnam War?

3. What was the Holocaust?

The most memorable answers he got were from one classmate who said:

1. 1880

2. 1980

3. When we bombed China.

Swear to God.

26. Unfortunately, there are many people like this woman.
I'm sure that my own sister would be hard pressed to name any one (other than Bush and maybe Cheney) in the Bush Administration. She has never voted. :( Apparently, she has no interest in politics.

Many people, young and old, don't keep up with current events in the US or abroad. They don't read the paper or listen un-biased news.
You would be surprised at how little American history they know.

It is a very bad state of affairs. :(

In the wake of this Paris violence, I was talking to one of the lawyers I work for, and he said "What do you expect? The country's 90% Muslim."

He refused to believe that France was a primarily Catholic country, until I had to actually pull up statistics off the Web showing him that like 92% of the country is Catholic, not Muslim. And he's a lawyer! (Luckily, he's a non-voting Republican. I don't mind them that much when they tack the non-voting part on...)

38. There are TONS of people like her.. and every 4 years lots of them DO vote
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 12:55 PM by SoCalDem
They vote for the "cute one"..or the one with the "dreamy eyes"..or the one with the "darling children"...or the one who "loves his wife so much"

I know a woman who is totally apolitical for other reasons..

Her day starts at 4AM..She has 2 jobs..one from 5AM to 11 AM. Then she races home to prepare dinner for her family (a single Mom), and put it into the fridge for her teenaged kids to warm up for dinner.

She may watch a little tv while she cooks, but she's also on the phone then, setting up dentist appointments, calling friends, whatever.

Then she tries to catch a nap before she has to go to her OTHER job, which starts at 3, and ends at 9PM.

These jobs do NOT have specified days off, so sometimes she can end up working weeks on end without a day off for both jobs simmutaneously. They are both "part-time" jobs, so the benefits are very limited. I think they do have a skimpy medical plan, and one son has a part time job which does have benefits.

The radio in her 20 year old car has not worked in ages. They stopped the paper because no one ever read it, and they have only 1 tv in the kitchen/dining room/living room.

The kids do have a computer , but they have to share it. She has little time to do more than check email, so her use is limited too.

Her kids do clean the house somewhat and do laundry, but there are still "Mom things" to be done when she gets home at around 9:30 PM, and of course eventually, she has to get some sleep.

Her choice of entertainment is "fluff", because she's just too tired for much else.

There are MILLIONS of people whose lives are so FULL, they barely have time to breathe. These lives are not really their own. Bosses make demands on their time, kids need their time.

They just plain run out of time, and politics takes time...time to read up on candidates & issues, time to discuss and research , time that these people do NOT have..
