Ugh. Take this job and shove it.
After a six month search and finally getting one which resembles junior high more than actual work, I am casually looking again so I can just go to the boss and utter these exact words.

My dad has cancer and was hospitalised this week for complications. I have been incredibly distracted and emotional because of this, and I was called in and confronted with one minor, fixable mistake that I made and could have fixed in about 5 seconds. One mistake I made out of 300 perfectly correct files. I was read the riot act and I explained why I was so distracted and why I was so emotional all week. She said without a hint of sympathy or emotion that I should not come in if I am at all distracted by "outside emotional stress". What the fuck? This whole job is emotional stress! Maybe I should cut all ties to any personal life that I have. It certanly seems as if they want me to with the hours that I am working. :grr:

1. Did you get the memo about the cover sheets on the TPS reports?
Did you get the memo about the cover sheets on the TPS reports?

Did you get the memo about the cover sheets on the TPS reports?

Did you get the memo about the cover sheets on the TPS reports?

Did you get the memo about the cover sheets on the TPS reports?

(if you haven't seen Office Space, you won't get the joke)

I hope everything turns out well for your father.

4. If I may ask
what do you do at this place?

Would they catch you if you burned it to the ground?

I said no salt, NO SALT.

8. I work at a non-profit...
"Research Assistant" is my title, but glorified data entry is the actual job. I am actually way overqualified, but in this economy, you take what you can get.

9. Nonprofits can be some of the worst places to work.
It's really amazing how assholes that don't care about the purpose of the agency (especially conservative assholes) can ruin otherwise rewarding work.

:hugs:

10. courtesy of johnny paycheck.
Take this job and shove it,
I ain't workin' here no more.
My woman done left,
An' took all the reasons I was workin' for.
You better not to try to stand in my way,
As I'm a walkin' out the door.
Take this job and shove it,
I ain't workin' here no more.

I've been workin' in this fact'ry,
For nigh on fifteen years.
All this time, I watched my woman,
Drownin' in a pool of tears.
An I've seen a lot of my good folk die,
Had a lot of bills to pay.
I'd give the shirt right off of my back,
If I had the guts to say.

Take this job and shove it,
I ain't workin' here no more.
My woman done left,
An' took all the reasons I was workin' for.
You better not to try to stand in my way,
As I'm a walkin' out the door.
Take this job and shove it,
I ain't workin' here no more.

Well, that foreman, he's a regular dog,
The line boss is a fool.
Got a brand new flat-top haircut;
Lord, he thinks he's cool.
One of these days, I'm gonna blow my top,
And sucker, he's gonna pay
Lord, I can't wait to see their faces,
When I get the nerve to say:

Take this job and shove it,
I ain't workin' here no more.
My woman done left,
An' took all the reasons I was workin' for.
You better not to try to stand in my way,
As I'm a walkin' out the door.
Take this job and shove it,
I ain't workin' here no more.

Take this job and shove it.

2. At my last job...
my boss compared my LTR ending to his neighbor's cat running away and told me that if his neighbor could function and work without getting upset that I had better suck it up too. I nearly punched him in the face.

6. People are such fucking assholes ...
... when they get a modicum of power. I had a job like that. Remind them that they hired a human being and not a robot. People like that will not respect you until you blow-up at them.

11. Kill with kindness
write her a thank you note dripping with sweetness about how supportive she was and how understanding and how you have NEVER WORKED WITH ANYONE LIKE HER BEFORE. Make it on a hokey fancy card with, say, Lilacs...or maybe a Thomas Kincaid print.

Make sure it is so over the top that she can't dare comment on it.

Works for me.
