Question for folks with Asperger's
Do you have trouble hearing what people are saying?

I have very good hearing, but half the time when people say something it sounds like meaningless syllables or words.... totally nonsensical.

Does that happen to anyone else, or only me?

2. My daughter's friend is very engaging when I am talking to her
face-to-face, but when she is heading home & I say "goodbye, see ya later!" she often doesn't seem to hear me. She is very intelligent and a super-genius in school. Just maybe a little disconnected with offhand remarks that are not specifically directed to her.

3. I don't know if I have Asperger's
but I have a great deal of trouble concentrating when I am in a medium sized group of people. I really don't connect with anything that's going on, and have trouble remembering anything anyone has said.

4. It's not about not being able to follow a conversation
It's that sometimes people say things that don't make ANY sense.

6. To me, that describes most conversations I hear
going on between two other people. It's like they're talking, and words are coming out of their mouths, but they're not saying anything. It's almost like they are speaking in a different language even though all the words are in English.

10. usually they make sense if you knew what "it" was
One time my boss got mad about something I did and he growls at me "You don't want to go there with me. Do you?"
"Go where?"
"You know what I am talking about."
"No I don't."
"Don't play this game with me."
"What game?"

It is like there are games or rules or code words that everyone knows that I do not.

5. Not the hearing--the understanding
Especially if there is other noise around, it will often take a few seconds for my brain to parse what someone has said. Thebi gge step roblemis sepa ratingthe wor dscorrectly.

8. I think it's more about context for me
if I can get most of the words, I can fill in the blanks, but sometimes like, 10 words in a row will sound like total nonsense.
