then the answer to the first question is yes. And I could describe in rather graphic detail how this picture makes the most out of this person's assets (very limited assets, IMO).

But that isn't the real reason that it's sexy. The real reason is that voice in my head which says: "Oh yeah, baby."

Now, I don't necessarily listen to that voice. And there are reasons innumerable why I would say (and have said) no to it. (It's not the urge, that's human nature -- it's what we do with it.)

But I look at the picture and that voice says... well, you know.

And the answer to the second question is also yes. I can envision circumstances where a perfectly respectable lady might strike such a pose. But I don't write romance novels... and certainly cameras, publicity, some skank, etc, wouldn't be involved.

It's also why I have friends who are in great shape, look great, but they go to a store and can barely fit some of the clothes because they are so small. Women constantly have to be compared to physical freaks that maybe consist of 2 percent of the whole female population, while men don't have to deal with that same thing. It's why on tv you'll see a Joe Sixpack guy with a beer belly, like Jim Belushi, who has a skinny cute blonde wife. The standards are on polar opposite ends of the spectrum. Personally, those type of women aren't really my cup of tea. Plenty of attractive women out there who don't look like they starve themselves and so on. It's a shame that many feel they have to live up to that sort of image.

I used to be pretty ignorant towards all of this, I'm a typical oblivious man, but I took a gender and race class a few years ago. the picture perpetuates an unrealistic standard, as you mention above. We see so many women of this type in sexualized poses, all around us, that they become this ideal that we are all supposed to aspire to. It's sad, but beautiful women with some curves and natural features feel they need to do all sorts of crazy shit to try to look like Ms. Paris the Plastic here.

she looks detached and unemotional too. It's totally unrealistic to me. She's an attractive, sexy woman and all, but most women don't have her specific look. That's not to say that most women aren't sexy. I actually think most women are pretty sexy, even more so then Paris is, she just has a specific look and image that isn't realistic. Sexy lady??? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

By shifting to a more head-on angle with the model looking into the camera we get a "classic" pose often seen in beach photos. This angle is awkward, the worm's eye view of the world is just not preferred in Cheesecake or Glamor, I would have only kept this shot as a study in lighting and as an example of an experimental camera angle that did not work. I also think that the photo could have been improved by having the model look into the camera.

If forced to find good cropping with this image, I suggest: Left side remove the hand at the wrist, right side remove the broach, top, remove the white roses, bottom is fine, (leaves room for ads or words or even left green is fine too).
Use a magazine or paper to crop as I suggested and a far better, more intimate image reveals itself with this pose. A series cropped this way would have included a few shots with the model shifting her eyes to look directly into the camera. That would likely have produced the "money-shot". (Oh and don't even get me started on the depth of field problems with this shot or the distracting pink flower sticking out of her head....)
