Anyone else ever hate Thanksgiving?

When I was little, we would go to my great aunt's house for Thanksgiving dinner. She liked to eat about 11:30 in the morning. There was always a huge crowd there, and we ate in shifts. The adults ate first, then the kids. I was 19 or 20 before I knew Turkey and dressing were supposed to be eaten hot! By the time we got to eat, the gravy was congealed, everything was room temperature, and the grownups had eaten all the chocolate pie! To add insult to injury, the kids then had to clean up and wash all the dishes! Thank God I'm not a kid anymore!

1. Once, I did.

Then, I grew up. I was thirteen when we discovered that the football games meant EVERYTHING. We ran aroud the house, added to the bonfire outside, snuck beers and *prepare to be grossed out* went to the local arcade to snack on cheeze doodles & NuGrape. This was after dinner.

3. LOL! It was SO GOOD!

That combo mixed with the scent of burning leaves and suggestive music ("Centipede" by who knows what singer) and Ms Pac-Man, of course.

5. I miss Thanksgiving.

It was always a favorite holiday (my family is smaller than yours though, so I never had to eat cold turkey with congealed gravy!).

I've lived in England since 1986 and, of course, it's just another day here. Kids in school, adults at work. No turkey. No celebration. No football. No Macy's parade.

I miss it all.

8. my family also had thanksgiving dinner just about noon--everybody ate

at the same table, kids and all...or, at most another table in the same room was set for the kids..but everyone ate together ... i can't get used to thanksgiving dinner taking place at 7 or 8 o'clock at night!

9. I. Totally. Hate. Thanksgiving. Period.

The stress, the in-laws, the "Alpha Female" cooking crap that my partner's aunt exhibits--I'm a fairly good cook and she's threatened if I bring something to HER table.

I just want to go eat at the local cafeteria and be done with it.
